As a mom to an autistic son, its been a lonely journey, however quite fulfilling as I have watched my son progress. I believe God intervened in the situation cos his initial prognosis was very discouraging. He is top of his class and is well regulated. He loves being around people but WILL NOT socialise with them. He is also very aware of people who find him irritating and he will avoid them. They are special people really. I have learnt so much from him. God bless you on your journey Bongiwe. Wish we could meet, I am not on Tik Tok, but am in Joburg, hope I will get infor on the support group too.

I have a son who is autistic too.i found out when he was 3,he would Hurd himself, break things, didn't like to be in public or growd. It is 6 year later now since I found out ND it was so difficult living in the village where it is difficult to get help but now he's is so much better now than when I found out 6 years ago, he eats Food that he didn't want to eat then, he's going to a normal school but is not easy but teachers manage, he's in grade 2 now

I am a mother of an autistic boy, how overwhelmed I have been. Still am. But with time I'm learning to embrace and see the awesomeness in my son. He has taught me a lot. Thanx Promise for shining a light. I would say guys wen u experience a child having meltdowns be gracious, being overwhelmed by the child and the comments of people can put mothers in a state of depression, or end up not wanting to take their kids anywhere.and that will not be fair to the child. They still need to experience life. Be gracious. Spread love.

Autism is such a tough one, at times even the doctors dealing with our children are clueless...I mean clueless...so as we become more aware let's support each other. Help that mom u see a child with these symptoms with, that cousin who is struggling not knowing. Families who want to pray for our children ..bless them too...I am also a mom with my 1st born 14 year old boy being on the spectrum. It's been a journey, but easier when walked together

I know about autism the spectrum. It's just that it's so rare in the black community. Either it's rare or people our community are not aware of it. Also the likes of Down Syndrome, ADD and ADHD. We still need education on neurological disorders as a black community.
@PriscaWhite-ql9pt
@PriscaWhite-ql9pt 5 ай бұрын
It used to be a rare condition even among whites but like everything else, its becoming more prevalant. Problem is with us black communities, we ostracize families with children who are different. The autistic children are labelled crazy or bewitched. Ive even heard others accusing the parents of using their child for rituals which explains the condition. Some children are hidden from society. But these children are out there, they grow and become adults, some wonder off and leave home and noone ever looks for them, others are killed by their own family members and its just swept under the carpet. Sad reality.
