Just beautiful. The Screamin' Jay bit was a downright Lynchian twist for an already-amazing song.

Holy shit. I don't think there's every been a broadcast show like Night Music. Bob Weir seguing to Bongwater, with an intro from Screamin' Jay Hawkins, covering a Roky Erickson song?!?!?! What the holy sacred fuck. My brain will never recover.

Kramer was everywhere and nowhere. In time he will be remembered as an incredible genius. And when we mention Phil Spector, Brian Wilson and Joe Meek we will also speak of Kramer.

I met him with John S. Hall (King Missile) & Beck at Doornroosje, in Nijmegen, Netherlands April 1995. An unforgettable Night!!! cheers, Dorian Gilbert……..🦇

I saw Bongwater at the Riverside club in Newcastle -upon-Tyne, England, in 1990. Best gig of my life. This video goes some way to illustrating why it was so good. Absolutely nuts!
@stevierob4 жыл бұрын
Paul Tomic I saw so many great gigs at The Riverside but alas I only got into Bongwater after they played there. There’s an empty hole in my life where there should be a wonderful Bongwater gig memory.

Now, boys and girls, The Residents appeared later on this same show. If one were to have been expanding their consciousness that night and by accident this fly under your radar who knows what might have taken place.

This show belongs on DVD, Blu-Ray, and/or iTunes! And I'm talking about the entire series, not just this performance.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, that will probably never happen. I'm glad I have most of the shows on hi-fi VHS. Now, to transfer them. That's another matter altogether.

if this exact same performance would have appeared on SNL, it would have altered the course of all subsequent pop music.
@ElbowsBend3 жыл бұрын
This series remains the greatest music show ever broadcast. Last I heard, Lorne Michaels owns the rights. I get there's not a big market for a DVD release of the series. But damn man! History. Do it for posterity.

You'd think Ann Magnuson would've been 'in' with SNL as well; with her comedy acting background. Great band, Bongwater; sorely missed.

I fell in love with this years ago when I caught on to Night Music. For years, I was never aware tha this was a R.E. song until 2003 when Stanislav Zabic played it on his radio station K-LSU in Baton Rouge (at the time). Classic!

Jools Holland keyboardist for Squeeze was the original host with sidekick David for "Sunday Night" brought to you by Michelob than it became "Night Music" with David Sanborn continuing as the main host. The Pixies debut was on this show. Many great acts, Pere Ubu, Sun Ra, The Lounge Lizards, to name a few appeared on this iconic short lived music series.

I have to admit I never saw a single episode of Sanborn's show. Must have been in one of those long periods - like these last two years - when I don't even have TV.Anyhow, this is one of my favoritest videos on all of KZbin. It's hyperpsychedelic, sensory overload. And I never even saw Bongwater perform once when they were together :-(

May or may not be an exaggeration, but it certainly would have been noticed. Roky Erickson could have used the shot in the arm at the time, too. I told his brother about this when I first saw it and he showed it to Roky who hadn't seen it, but enjoyed it.
