I remember when I first heard The Shape of Jazz to Come, I hated it. But after listening to it for 4 months, I realized it was based on standard song form. I started telling cats that Ornette sounds amazing and his concept of harmolodics made sense but they looked at me like I was crazy.

He definitely made music that was outside of so many jazz musicians for that time. The only one who seemed to match his innovation was Miles Davis* and Charles Mingus. Absolutely an innovator
