People have to understand that the police had to handle the situation this way with an ambush. It wasn't because Clyde was that bad...it was because Clyde was just that good! If they had given him and Bonnie any chance at all some officer might not have went home that night to his wife and kids. Bonnie and Clyde built one hell of a reputation with there actions and no chance by that time could be taken with them.

Clyde Barrow was an expert with a Browning Automatic Rifle. He had three in the car he died in. He went to Texas State Militia Armories, and bribed the sergeant in charge. It was the Depression. Times were desperate for most. He used a Model A Ford. Clyde thanked Ford for that excellent Auto. It was fast. The BAR ripped through car bodies like they were nothing. They couldn't be gentle with him.

The posse later said that they shouted a warning ("Put 'em up, Clyde! You're covered!") but no one knows for sure, and Clyde supposedly was seen to reach for his gun. Clyde claimed that he would never be taken alive, and the gunfights he and Bonnie had been in seemed to confirm that. Plus, they had gotten out of (i.e., shot their way out of) tight spots and escaped many times, even being wounded and still escaping. So, law enforcement was a little spooked and started to think that B&C were somehow invincible; that's why they did overkill on them.
@juniwilliams7 жыл бұрын
lindsey lefrois I highly doubt it. From the photos I've seen, this was merely an execution. Probably a convenient reason to spray them with lead. So many inaccurate facts about Bonnie and Clyde, some myth coined with truth. We will never know,and that's where legend prevails. @smokey91949 жыл бұрын
+Maridee Slater Clyde Barrow had given these men a good education. The reason he didn't have a "gun in hand" was the officers had made a very wise decision to not let him get that far. He had given them a 2 year education and the lesson to be learned was, if you let Clyde Barrow shoot first, you won't have the chance to shoot back. There were plenty of people who fell on hard times in the early 1930s and they found a way to survive without killing their fellow man. Barrow, for his killing and Parker for her association and support, both got exactly what was coming to them.

That is not how it happened. Methvin's father stopped the car, Clyde talked to him,and Hamer stood up. Bonnie screamed, Clyde hit the accelerator, and Hamer and his men mowed them down while the car was moving. The car landed in the ditch and caught fire Bonnie and Clyde were dead slumped over riddled with 50 bullets.

Bonnie was 24 and Clyde was 25. They died almost 85 years ago. It's interesting how the story has hung on for over 3 times as long as they were alive.
@musicaltheatergeek795 жыл бұрын
Bonnie was still 23 (her birthday was in October; the ambush was in May) and Clyde had just turned 24 two months prior to the ambush, in March. The birth year on his tombstone is off by one year. Apparently, his mother was so grief-stricken, she inadvertently gave them the wrong year. She also made the same mistake with his brother Buck when he was killed a year earlier. But recent bios by Jeff Guinn and Karen Blumenthal have made the corrections, even if the graves still have the wrong years on them.

I loved both 1967 & this version, but I'd like to see the real thing. Without the glitz and glamour. like read "Go Down Together" by Jeff Guinn and research and make it a movie. Dunno, just my opinion.
@smokey91949 жыл бұрын
+Samantha Stanwyck Absolutely agree. Both of these movies of which you speak were great from an entertainment perspective. But what would be so bad about making a movie about their crime spree using just the facts? I too have read Go Down Together as well as Blanche's edited memoirs by John Neal Philips. Not to digress but it seems like every time a Hollywood producer has the opportunity to make a really good bio, they screw it up by trying to serve their own personal agenda. Another good example was The Glenn Miller Story (1954). Glenn's life as it was would have been equally or maybe even more entertaining than the Hollywood version. And, like the story of Clyde and Bonnie, many of the key people never got so much as an honorable mention.
@JohnSmith-fy1tt7 жыл бұрын
The real thing, that explain why so many bullets were fired is that the car was moving, not still like in this movie. Hitting a moving car an making sure to hit the passengers require more shots.

***** actually, this 2013 remake had many inaccuracies. For example, this ambush. In this version, Clyde sets up their own ambush as a way to stop Bonnie, who has gone bloodthirsty. The truth was more like it was portrayed in the 1967 film, where the pair were set up by the father of an accomplice, who made a deal with the cops to get his son a lesser sentence. However, the '67 version had Clyde step out of the car just before they're gunned down, but in fact they were both inside the car as shown here. That's the only accurate thing about the ambush this movie got right.
@aerialeggbeater26446 жыл бұрын
The weaponry wasn’t correct either. Not much of this ambush scene was factual, except B&C had quite a lot of new holes that they didn’t have before
@aerialeggbeater26445 жыл бұрын
Doge Doge there are many accounts of the ambush, and more movie re enactments. The only accurate source that I believe comes from one of the lawmen who stated they all had shotguns, a couple of Remington model 8 rifles, and some handguns. The most informative site I have seen on any B&C info comes from The Texas Hideout. Many pics, interviews, coroner reports, etc.

There was smoke coming from the car, and it looked like it was on fire. After shooting the shotguns, we emptied the pistols at the car, which had passed us and ran into a ditch about 50 yards on down the road. It almost turned over. We kept shooting at the car even after it stopped. We weren't taking any chances”*

Kent Churchill, you're very wrong. Killing a person isn't enough. It's just ending a useless life. That's it. They're not going to feel the pain, it's just ending their life. One bullet and boom, they're done. And then you have this guilt on yourself and live your life miserably. Who's winning? They deserve to live like any other human being however, punishing them and locking them up far away from each other and guilt tripping them is a much darker and painful punishment because they're forced to spend their whole life in misery versus just dying off. Ending their life isn't going to teach them anything. It's only going to push you farther down, mentally. Dying isn't going to solve anything. These people deserve punishment not death. I'm not using emotions and personal morals to present this opinion, but logic and reasoning. I am not critiquing your opinion or looking lowly at it however, I am adding my view on your wording. I agree with Kayla CC that no one deserves death but they do deserve a life sentence and punishment.

It was basically an ambush and the six-man posse did not deny it. They first emptied their automatic rifles, then their shotguns, then finally their pistols. The couple carries automatic rifles with them as well and known to survive a few gunshot wounds. In the past, they were able to fire back at police officers and escape. They killed nine police officers in the past and the men composing the posse did not take a chance.
