The silence was deafening when Jill Biden announced Just Like that as the winner. 🤣Well deserved. Aretha will be smiling down from heaven that her friend beat all the young 'uns.

I think part of the reason for the silence was people were waiting to hear Jill say Bonnie's name, which never happened. Bonnie was even waiting to hear her name to make sure she was the winner. Oh, well🤦‍♂️ I'm so happy for Bonnie😍 I am a long-time fan. She is very deserving💖

@@GoodStuffForeverMore I didn’t even realize that, but I just watched it back and saw that she only said the song name, but not the artist. I think everyone is so used to hearing the name, for obvious reasons, come immediately after. They were either waiting respectfully to let her say Bonnie’s name so they didn’t clap over it being read or they were honestly not sure what was said since only the song title was said and not the artist. So, they needed a minute to actually comprehend what she just said. I think Bonnie herself was just shocked and then when she heard her song playing it really hit her. It’s well deserved and she was so genuinely happy 😊

@@katherinehunter9526 omg. do some research before spouting bs online. taylor is widely considered the songwriter of her generation & one of the best by critics, those whose opinion actually matters. Taylor was one of the very first clapping for Bonnie as well as every other winner that night & literally supports all artists, even those under the same award category. All Too Well 10mv is considered Taylor's magnum opus by many (false, she has many songs that are better) & was very much deserving of the award, yet she immediately clapped for Bonnie & cheered her on as she does everytime she loses. Taylor's been way too respectful to new/old peers since the start & makes too beautiful of art to be dissed like that.

Bonnie Raitt is, to my mind, THE songwriter in this category. I also want to say she is among legends in the making so overall this was really a well fought race. I am elated that she won though because of something she deserves it the most. This song IS a reflection... of these times, yes, but also of all time for the person who lives in the wake of it. Just Like That elevated songwriting to something that will become (maybe has for some) a part of their grief healing journey. Everyone in the set was a well deserved nominee. Bravo and respect to each of them. But Ms. Raitt was the right choice to win.

I think it’s shocking to most of the younger fans who aren’t aware of her or her music, but also to a lot of the artists at the awards because it was unexpected. It wasn’t unexpected because she’s not talented and didn’t deserve it. It’s because we had been hearing so much talk about it almost definitely going to Beyoncé or Taylor Swift. I can’t stand when there’s constant speculation to the point of assumption, but I do love when a dark horse or unexpected nomination takes the win and this is coming from a Swiftie. It was well deserved and I’m sure the other nominees were just as happy for her 😊

As Harry Styles put it best... there is no best... it's an award not based on who is best... just an "entertainment" award based on votes. We all know that votes have a lot of bias... but if it's important to you then yes, you'll want the recognition. The top artists show up to thank the voters, but know that it's the fans that make them successful... especially those who have a global fan base and not just in the US.
