Oh god.. No. Romanians are people that live in Romania. That doesn't mean that all Romanians are Gypsies.(or all Gypsies are Romanians) It's like saying that all Americans are black. Yes, a significant amount of them live in Romania but that doesn't define its culture. They are actually immigrants from India (as far as I know) and we accepted them into our society (gave them the possibility to become citizens, go to school, get a job). So please, from now on, don't mistake Gypsies for Romanians only if they were born/live there. Thanks

Ellen, you should know better. I love Bonnie Raitt, but the term "gypsy" is an equivalent to saying the "N"-word for the Romani people. She clearly has no clue what the history of the term means. This is a Romanticized term that American Hollywood has created. She should, as should you, look at the documentary "A People Uncounted" and read up on the true history of what Americans call "gypsies." I don't make songs about derogatory terms for lesbians and romanticize their struggle. Please remove your endorsement.

"gypsy" has entered the language as a lower-case word meaning a free spirit or vagabond, and survives and shall survive with or without reference- mostly without- to the Romani people. The word as used in this song is madewithout reference conscious or unconscious to the Romani people. As it is, in common English usage, not derogatory but romantic in connotation, your attempt to delete it from usage will meet with little sympathy or success.
