Something new is taking shape in our biggest aquarium at the Green Aqua Gallery. We build a planted aquarium, a minimalist bonsai forest with an emphasis on some bigger fish that will be introduced in the second video of the series. In this video, however, we engage in some serious DIY hardscape build with some special wood. Drilling machine time!

I like how with a minimalist tank like this, every scape decision is much more crucial and also highlights the team's skill! Adding the extra branches to the right-hand tree and the large stone on the very left, both of those really balanced the scape well

Awesome technique with the plexi glass and screws. I used ciggarette filters and glue to attach rocks to the bottom of my trees as anchors in my forst scape, but the plexi glass method seems a lot better. Looking great so far cant wait to see this one develop!

Balazs, I like your hardscape, the tree on the far right is quite good. When you go to plant, remember that the point of bonsai is to show the trumk and the wood, so be careful of getting too carried away covering the wood with plants. Also, your trees remind me of those I find on mountain tops, where there is little vegetation, another reason to go light with the plants. Good luck!

A lot of excellent work and effort went into such an awesome start to a really different Bonsai setting. I myself have been doing Bonsai for 12 years and have been reflecting this in my AquaScapping even though I’ve only just started this in the last year. One thing I have found very useful from my Bonsai experience, is that you can heat the deadwood and it bends! You can either do this just with flames or the best method is definitely by wrapping the material in a wet cloth then wrapping it entirely up with Tinfoil to hold in the steam. I then wrap the wood with the desired thickness of wire (bonsai wire) to hold the bend in place. Leave it to dry out and remove the coverings and let the wood dry out and the wire is left in place to hold the position. Can’t wait to see your next stage as I’m about to start a Bonsai scapping in a six footer myself for a Frontosa tank display. 🙏
