Hi Jason, Thank you for the feed back. I always leave some cones on, but on this tree they were all at the end of long branches which had to be shortened. Cheers IK

Happy to catch this. I always learn new things when watching you work. Never thought of moss as being dangerous for trees, but that make s sense. Thank you for your great explanations. It is very pretty now. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Iqbal,Tree is looking very beautiful after your expert pruning.So elegant! Thanks for sharing video. And also thanks a ton for the valuable tip abt moss.I never thought of it before. The stems of my two trees are getting covered by moss slowly n l am happy to see a jungle look! Its late in night, definitely going to clean it tomorrow. Iqbal, didn't it hurt you when you prune the branches with beautiful cones? I know its a stupid thing to ask n i know why my bonsai trees dont look as they should... Love

Hello Anita, You rock. Thank you for great feed back. You can leave the moss on the soil, but remove the moss on the trunk/stem as I explained in the video. Ideally the cones should be removed so that the tree's energy is all used in its development. I do leave some a few cones on. I also have other trees with cones on. I try an keep a balance between keeping a few cones which look good on the tree and preserve the energy of the tree and then its not painful to remove the rest of the cones. As I always say don't doo too much work all at once on your trees, little an often is best. Cheers x

Hello Bonsai community! I am fairly new to the art of bonsai. I would really like to buy a young (2-3 years old) Larix to make it a bonsai but I have one question! Is it possible to make it an indoor bonsai? I am not concered about the light but more so about messing with the natural change of seasons (and temperature). Would it harm the Larix?

Larch are out door trees and if you bring it indoors, these trees will die. These are best kept outdoors. Regards Iqbal

Hi Iqbal. Well to begin with I am absolutely a novice. Don't have a bonsai to my name but am desperate to start with trying to get one done. Just a quick question which tree would be the easiest for me to start with here in India. Also do you happen to give live demos in London. Thanks .
@mikbonsai

Hello Preeti, We all start from zero and work up. Trees which are easy to work with are the ones local to you, such any variety of Ficus, with includes Banyan trees, Jade, bougainvillea, Gulmohar, Peepal, are some of the trees which grow well in your climate. You can buy any of these from plant sellers (here we call them garden centres and nursery plants) where you live and work on them to start the process of making them into bonsai tree. I have many videos showing the process of making a garden centre/nursery plant into a bonsai. I don't have the time for live demos as I am a Chartered Accountant, own and run my own firm in London. I also have a second business which is a bonsai nursery and I also teach there. Then there is this channel and it takes a long to shoot as I and my assistant work on the trees, then the editing takes hours, late into the night. Let me know how I can help you. I do have a subscribers only fb group where I also teach on line, perhaps you can join that group and have my input on your trees. the link is: facebook.com/groups/mikbonsai/

mikbonsai Thankyou so much. Will definitely do the needful. Maybe get a pipal or banyan tree and pot it. I did ask about live training as am in London for a month. Thanks anyway. On my way to planning a start.

Your question was "do you happen to give live demos in London". Demos are done at bonsai shows, exhibitions and bonsai clubs, which I don't do. But I do teach and will be happy to schedule some lessons to get your started. Usually I do the lessons at weekends. Let me know and will proceed. You can email me or call me or arrange it from here.

Brilliant job on the Larch, dodgy afterthought :P I have some roots I don’t like much on my JBP would I get away with doing this just now to maybe a couple of them this year then a couple next year? hope all is good and look forward to the next video buddy :)

Hi Rob, Thanks for complementing my work. As for the afterthought, I thought it was funny, may be I didn't tell it very well. Will try harder next time. The root work on JWP, leave it end of October as I don't know how they would react and also they are expensive trees and I wouldn't want you losing it. Catch up in chat soon. all the best IK

I have a larch in training. How can I get it to back bud please?
@mikbonsai
@mikbonsai 6 жыл бұрын
When I have hard pruned a larch, they tend to back bud. I only do this when drastically redesigning a tree. Work with what you have and you will be surprised with the results, let it crow and then prune it. Keep repeating this process, as larch trees grow very fast, you can prune it a number of times a year. Keep an eye on the apex as that's where they are very dominant so keep it under control. Do let me know how you get on with your larch in couple of months time. Cheers IK
