Bonsai Mirai

Күн бұрын

In this episode of Mondays at Mirai, Ryan, wearing a rare button-up shirt, indulges in some hefty and significant repots including a rock planted pine and the iconic Rocky Mountain Juniper No. 1 with expansive deadwood cascading out of a Ron Lang container. With kamas and chopsticks in hand, Ryan shares some of his favorite and least favorite moments of bonsai repotting season.
While finely tucking in the sphagnum moss and soil substrate mixture into a smooth contour on a rock planting, Ryan confides in the camera that even sometimes he gets nervous coming into work. With hundreds of massive repots in process and the season coming to an end, he feels both the pressure and the manic excitement of rapid change that is brought on by the multitude of repottings. Visiting the greenhouse to help this week is a Mirai close friend Adam Johnson, who humbly tries to avoid the camera. Ryan shares a couple of tips to bring ease to your repotting season such as alternating between challenging and more routine repots to keep your spirits up. Looking back at all the work that has been accomplished this year so far, there is satisfaction in knowing incredible bonsai work can be achieved with patience and carefully executed technique.

Monday’s at MIRAI , are an inspiring, entertaining, and fun thing to follow. Those little quips and bonsai jabs make it a hoot to follow. Oh, and lest we forget the fantastic facial expressions by all there. The wife and I are looking forward to when we can physically visit MIRAI for the first time. THANK YOU !

8:08 Maybe the best juniper Bonsai in the World in my opinion. Only competition comes from Toryunomai. It is not exactly balanced by the Japanese standards, but for me it is a touch cheeky and absolutely fantastic. I'd feel comfortable to call it my favourite juniper Bonsai of all times. Pot...Peter Benda?

Ryan sounds like he's just realized bonsai is art...he is a sculptor and medium is a living breathing tree. His work will out live him like many of the well known artist akin Henry Moore. The work is torture yet your work is beautiful.
