Mikazuki is such an interesting flip on the standard Gundam protagonist (if such a thing can be said to exist). Rather than constant anxiety and apprehension with regards to "getting in the robot," Mika's go-to for any obstacle or problem is to jump in the Barbatos and smash through it with extreme prejudice. BUT his reliance on this approach ends up costing him internally; rather than growing into himself like an Amuro or a Camille, he gradually shuts down, physically and emotionally, despite the people still in his life who love him desperately trying to reach him.

I can not recommend OG series enough. I grew up on replays in the 90s but if you can deal with the visual downgrade it is all so great.

I think IBO has my favorite Combat of any Gundam. There was a point where Gundam just became this game of "TOP THIS BIG GUN". But IBO not just created the ballistic melee weapons as the standard, they created lore on why that is. On top of that, they really sold the weight of the swings the suits make with the metallic bangs you hear as theyre getting hit.

So ive watched a majority of the gundam series. IBO so far is my favorite. The fact that piloting a gundam to its max and not suffering any major side effects always kind of bothered me. IBO made the perfect system that showed power has consequences

Yeah it made sense for the show due to the system. Gundam has always had that in the form of Proto Newtype suits/systems. New type experimentation as a whole is like that. For other regular pilots the side effect to piloting grunt suits is dying cus they came in the path of the main cast 😂

I really only hear people talk negatively about season 2 not getting that Tekkadan was set up to fail and simply mad the bad guys won when Rustal ultimately did more good after their downfall than while they were basically a walking indorsement for "actually child slavery is good"

The biggest problem of the show was really goldie just turned hard r in the second half of the show and decided that he was gonna go full r mode. He was portrayed as the 200iq behind the scenes controlling all thing guy in the first season of the show, but ended up being literally the stupidest person in the entire show in the second season.

Idk if iron blooded orphans is a good entry level into the series but it's the only gundam i've seen, the franchise is too big I didn't know where to start with gundam so many mixed opinions from everyone but they all agreed iron blooded orphans could be watched as a stand alone series by itself so I went with that

The most interesting thing about Season 2 of this show is that Tekkadan actually shifts to being the thematic villain of the setting. The second Orga got blinded by the words "Kings of Mars", he stopped listening to the people he swore to heed advice from. Mikazuki, the only person Orga would have listened to, doesn't have the mental and emotional maturity to realize that he is going off the deep end. Tekkadan turn into Gundam Villains, but the camera doesn't leave them. It's a really cool way to tell the story. This is why Tekkadan keeps failing at crucial points in the story, because Gundam villains would. The real protagonist of the setting becomes Gaelio with Julia as his supporting protagonist.
