Can we just add Larry to the National Treasure register? Like- he is more down to earth, knowledgeable-hell, more damn Australian- then the current PM, and probably since Bob Hawke. Always great to watch Larry talk- he gets that glint in his eye, and you just know either a truth bomb or a great story is inbound!

I'd love to know more about how Larry got into engineering, if he had any formal training in engineering, if he does or did his own engineering drawings for racing or for things like the Unimog parts he made. Having been a keen fan of motorsport I know Larry grew up on a farm and was no idiot mechanically from very early on, but race car engineering is different than agricultural engineering, surely Larry picked up his technical skills somewhere along the way. Casting engines, building Bathurst winning racecars, and all the skills you need don't come by accident. Could you do a story about this? You might learn a few things yourself that you weren't aware of. Anyhow, love your work Jack, keep up the good work!

Thanks, Larry for years of racing entertainment, when the racing was real and cars were cars that we could (albeit, much modified) see on the street. You have always been a gentleman and it looks like Jack is a chip off the old block. All the best for the future.

I went to Bathurst 1991 doing refueling for a Kiwi team running the ex Jim Richards M3 in a low budget crack at doing the great race. Car was running in full Castrol colours from New Zealand and as Castrol Australia had some signage but no full sponsored teams they loved us. A bunch of Kiwi amateurs watching the Tooheys top ten in the Castrol lounge with the bar open. Fantastic memories, great guys.

Looking at some of the cars and remembering them like it was a couple of years ago only to realise it was over 20 can be a bit of a surprise. Many great memories of the 90's era of touring cars. Great to see them coming back in their exact same presentation is really impressive! Your work is outstanding Jack.

Larry won the 79 Australian Rallycoss Championship in the no 2 Kruger VW. I too competed at that event in my HR Holden that I won the 80 State Title in. Larry, as he always did looks and sounds like a farmer. Jack looks a bit skinny and muscled though still a farmer. Though he does speak better, quite handy for his current job!

Great vid as usual and fantastic to see a little LP display in the museum, will definitely make a trip up there before Easter to see it in person (haven't been to Bathurst since 2015 after nearly 30 years of attending events up there)...Thanks again for taking the timne to post such great content that regardless of if you are a grizzled motorsport fan or relatively new to the sport we can all get enjoyment from the uploads

I started watching Bathurst in 72 , Brocky V Moffat , first on tv as a high school kid until I caught the bug of attending live. I recon I've seen most of these cars racing. Curious as to what happened to two crashed falcons , Johnsons XD ( forest elbow) and the GT HO that rolled along the fence at skyline, cant think of the drivers name.
@tennesseethompson52872 жыл бұрын
Bruce the GTHO that rolled was driven by Bill Brown in 1971and it was the McPhillamy Park fence. As for what happened to the car, I dont know? heres a link to the crash. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6SUkqeogr6KnaM

A great video Larry's input in the dealer team and his his own team was immense, a talented engineer & driver. The 70's- 2000 was great era of Australian motorsport ,V8 supercars are overly controlled and regulated a lot of the same components from one car brand to another ,the out come of a race is being controlled by someone on a computer in the pits.
@colinstewart14322 жыл бұрын
I genuinely believe the 90's were the highpoint of all motorsport. F1. Superbikes. WRC. They all peaked in the 90's. V8 or touring car racing is no different.

@perkinsengineering Жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the only 4WD car in the field for Bathurst 90/91/92?
@Fantomx7g6 Жыл бұрын
@perkinsengineering I'm referring to the Car that Larry Perkins said in 91 after the top 10 shoot out...the MOST Embarrassing cop out comment in Australian Motorsport History wich was..... "On paper the Nissan's are Quicker....But they're a Racing Car not a Touring Car"...Just after his qualifying lap while sitting in...a "RACE CAR"...if that comment wasn't so ludicrously Embarrassing it would be funny
