My paints are mostly Daniel Smith and QOR. I love, love, love the QOR for vibrancy and movement, especially when utilizing them for wet in wet. Mijello Blue is a convenience color I find fascinating and fun, and Holbein's Mineral Violet is a favorite. I wish I'd known how many colors were the same, brand by brand, when I first started, you know, by actual pigment. (I'm looking at you, Winsor and Newton.) W&N make a perylene maroon and a permanent rose I buy only in that brand, as I like the hue, & they're significantly different from the others.

Thank you Dianne for sharing your palette. I just fell in love with cad orange gradated with cobalt. I hear you may be removing them. What will you substitute for the cobalt? Will the yellow with cad scarlet sub for cad orange? Thank you for offering watercolor tips. You the best!
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Marie. I haven't moved them yet, but the yellow orange that I will keep combined with a bit of cadmium scarlet will give me orange. AND it will give me the ability to get that orange redder if I need to, or more yellow if that's what I want. Cobalt might stay there for a while because of its tendency to lean more opaque. Stay tuned...

Thank you so much, Ms. Mize! I love listening to you teach! My grandmother was an art teacher in East Texas before she retired; your way of speaking and teaching brings back fond childhood memories of her guiding me on how to use oil pastels! It's very calming and has inspired me to pick art back up now that I'm in my twenties. :) You may have mentioned this and I didn't hear it. If so, I apologize! Would you happen to have a palette setup for gouache or acrylic gouache? Because of the nature of these paints-- particularly acrylic gouache-- is it impractical to have a palette set up in the first place? Thank you so much for your time, and I hope you are well!
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 жыл бұрын
Delaney, since gouache dries so rapidly, it is best to set up the palette of colors just before beginning a painting session. May I refer you to James Gurney who does a lot of his plein air studies in gouache. Just search for him on KZbin.
@delaneybeckman52483 жыл бұрын
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction Thank you, that is incredibly helpful! You have likely saved me from wasting a lot of paint! I will definitely check James Gurney out. Thank you for your time! I hope you have a wonderful day and look forward to your next video. :)

Thanks a lot for your advice.👍🏻😊 May I ask why you choose Viridian over Phtalo green blue shade.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction6 ай бұрын
Thalos have a very high tinting strength, making them difficult to manage. The Rembrandt Viridian is very close in hue, transparency and value to thalo green so works beautifully as a replacement for that color.
@letajones85563 жыл бұрын
Dear Dianne. I am watching your video again!!😀 What do you use to replace the Cobalt blue? Thank you
@IntheStudioArtInstruction3 жыл бұрын
Leta, I use ultramarine blue. I keep a tube of Cobalt in case I need it, but I rarely reach for it now, so I see no need of keeping it on the palette.

I don't really have a set palette at the moment. Currently I'm going through a phase of using Dioxazine Purple as my mother colour and (for some reason) I've kicked out ALL of the tubed blues, and instead, use purple with green to make my blue. It's basically a pointless exercise, but I was just getting SO bored of looking at the same primary palette everyday. I think I'm just one of those people whose palette is going to change by the week, depending on what tubes I fancy. It'll be the same destination, just a different train to take me there. (Raw Sienna has to go permanently though, the smell of it is just too much.)
