Thank you! I have mandibular tori and always wondered what they were 😊 I have a white spot on my X-ray, below a tooth on the gum line. I wonder if they can show up this way as well... Thank you for this info!!

yes they can!

Thank you! I have wondered for years what these are! Now I know. 🙂 I have Mandibular Tori, though much smaller than the ones in your examples, and I've noticed that getting X-rays done is becoming more uncomfortable and difficult for the tech to get the needed view. Can anything be done to accommodate or make X-rays more comfortable?

Glad to help and I’m sorry but besides getting the Tori removed, I don’t have any other tricks on making X-rays more comfortable

I suffer from really bad TMJ and noticed that I had a mandibular tori in my lower right quadrant. Fortunately it does not obstruct my tongue or my nightguard that I am experimenting with which seems to modulatng my pain. Keep up your excellent work and I wish there were more TMJ specialists in the UK as we only have a handful of maxillofacial surgeons who specialise in treating TMD's. Please let me know if you can recommend a specialist in the UK otherwise I think I will have to come across the pond to visit you.

I'm sorry but I don't know anyone who treats the same way I do in the UK. Dr. Jaz Gulati is in Reading and has had success in treating TMD. Maybe you can try him? :)

I have had a palatal torus my entire life and it’s become a really bad problem for me recently. I don’t know if it got bigger but it’s interfering with my breathing, speaking, swallowing and chewing. I’m constantly biting my tongue and cheeks. I think all of it together has given me terrible forward head posture and I know I have tmj issues. It seems like it got so bad so fast and I don’t even know what to focus on to begin with.
@theTMJdoc2 ай бұрын
oh no! sorry to hear this. Have you seen a tmj dentist?
@Annaffable2 ай бұрын
@@theTMJdoc I’ve asked two dentists about it but they didn’t have much to say about it. My current dentist said that he doesn’t recommend getting it removed unless I need dentures in the future. I don’t think they have the knowledge or understand how much it is effecting other things. I have learned a lot from channels like yours but I don’t know where to go get help where I live.

I have the mandibular tori and assumed they are due to genetics. My mother had them and they were so bad that she needed to have them surgically removed. They give me minor issues now when I go to the dentist and am getting X-rays or having procedures done. I also have issues with clenching/grinding. Are there ways to slow down the growth of these?
@theTMJdoc2 ай бұрын
not that I'm aware of unless you stop clenching/bruxing. Sometimes an occlusal guard can slow the growth.
