Vic Firth makes some great sticks indeed! My go to stick for the heavy stuff is VF Hickory 3A. A bit long at 16 1/8 but seems to have a nice balance...

Rob Brown has a decent video on tuning. I used to tune mine to specific notes, but I had more toms and tuning it to 4ths made a very melodic sound.

...and thus, Bonzoleum records the passing of the "pie head" era of Remo drumheads (the "ship's wheel: used to be referred to as a "pie" on the forums back when they first came out, thus we used to call them "pie heads").

The pre “ship wheel” heads were from the 90’s. You would know if you had one of those since the Remo logo was smaller and the box looked different. The box you have is a newer box from the era right after the “ship wheel” heads. The new logo was introduced 2013/2014. Just watch some NAMM videos for the logo change.

Just the other day I was thinking... I ought to invite Terry down to NC and go check out the Ludwig factory. (Then, I thought hmmm). The Gretsch factory is only 3 hours away from Monroe and the ocean is just a skip away from there. The ocean has seagulls which could fly overhead and add passing ambiance to an outdoor, bongo rendition of Immigrant Song.
@bonzoleum6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe! I din't realize Gretsch was down there too...

Wow, you made putting on a drum head exciting! Nice video! Just wondering if you would have only have one floor Tom would you rather have an 18 or 16? I noticed that whenever somebody has a 14 rack with a 26 kick they would rather choose the 16 most of the time? I really like 18 inch toms and if you like the interval between the 14th and the 18th is a good spread where the high tom is spread enough to differentiate from the floor tom (the high is high and low is low). What do you think? Thanks for your time and response! -Ace

Higher you rely less on the calf muscle (more endurance), but I was too lazy to adjust my spring setting and shaft length to get better control in the higher position. I like your avatar Keith!
@keithmounts13056 жыл бұрын
bonzoleum I sit on the highest position setting on my Roc-n-soc I'm 6'3" and have always preferred to sit up higher I never noticed calf muscle strain, it's always that muscle that runs along your shin on the right side of your shin that burns like a mug after about 30 seconds of immigrant song. Today I am releasing my left kick drum to eBay I'm saying goodbye to 2kick drums & saying hello to more creativity and ability on 1 foot. I've been playing double bass for about 20 years or so and I feel like it's made me lazy and less creative. Anyways thank you for your reply sir keep on rockin, and I'll keep a'watchin'.

Hey, Terry. FT sounds great. Did you ever talk about Bonham sticks? He used Ludwig 2b, right?
@thomashope3736 жыл бұрын
atl_drum He used 2A Ludwig. Some people say they are bigger than 2B but i have no idea since it is the exact opposite for 5As and 5Bs
@cjansenATL6 жыл бұрын
Thomas Hope I didn't even know 2a existed!
@jabbingjabberwocky52436 жыл бұрын
Terry actually had a pair of exact BONHAM replicas made about 20 pair I was lucky enough to get two of them and yes there 2A's Ludwig I do believe that they are thicker but the shafts down at the tip are a lot skinnier hope this helps
@bonzoleum6 жыл бұрын
As the guys said, Bonham used Ludwig 2A (and 2B reportedly-the 2B were slightly different-a little longer too). Also Promuco and some others I'm sure. In all pics I've seen his sticks alwys appear to be heavier gauge (like a common 5B of most manufacturers).
