Those are great! Paiste crashes really have that classic crash sound. I like how they decay and how they cut through, and also, just how musical they sound. The 1400 gram range seems to be the sweet spot for the 18s.
@bonzoleum Жыл бұрын
Yes, especially the larger cupped variety (Original GB, 2000, 505, RUDE, etc). I do think that for the 18" 2002 model, that actually there is a gong-y ness that becomes more present as you approach and move from the 1430g area. Below 1390g and above 1480g is where that tone isn't as present. If you go to the Paiste site and compare the 18" 2002 CRASH model to the 18" 2002 THIN CRASH (mid-upper 1300s) and a MEDIUM, you'll hear.

Yeah, I'd pronounced it like "paste" for quite a few years, thanks to a cousin who's 15 years older than me and who kinda had been my very first drum hero; And he should know, right? 😄 I guess if you wanted to be _completely_ correct, it'd be pronounced "pies-tuh", with an ending like in 'Porsche' ("por-shuh") 😊 It was actually on a pAisTe flexi disc from one of their mid-80's brochures when I finally heard it pronounced correctly: "Hello! I'm Bill Bruford, the young English drummer from King Crimson, and I'm going to play you some of my favourite 'pies-tee' sounds!" - which he then proceeded to do, too! 😄

Cymbal sounds great Terry! I also just finished the Drum History Podcast video you and George did a few months ago. Great conversation and hang about Bonzo's gear! Re: the bass drum head, I agree, it looks like it probably had a ‘Ritchie Ring’ on it. Relatedly, how do you think Bonham’s symbol design got put on his bass drum when it came out? It seems unlikely that Remo or Ludwig would have imprinted it on, especially in the early days, maybe later. It also looks too perfect for it to be black tape in 3 concentric circles, or maybe spray painted on? Jimmy was the artist in group. Did he paint it on? A quick online search didn’t show up anything. Curious Bonhamites need to know! 😜✌❤🥁

Those pst7 sound good on video where the guy is playing swing jazz, not sure if they used any b8 alloy back in the swing days, though. Anyone know what goes with that swing jazz? I have zildjian b8 ride but at times it just doesn't sound right with other genres.

Love the sound of the 505 over the CS, and appreciate the history. Makes me want to seek out an early 80s 18in 505. I'm looking for a black label 20in medium at the moment, an original and not one of the reissues.
@bonzoleum Жыл бұрын
I just saw one on Ebay I think, It's nice, because a lot of folks will list it as a 'medium ride', and a lot of buyers aren't hip to just the word MEDIUM as a model. They're outstanding. an original black label 20" 2002 MEDIUM. I will say this, companies made a return from the beefing up of the models in the last 40 years. It's possible that a brand-new current red label 2002 20" MEDIUM might not be too heavy anymore. The MEDIUMS got pretty beefy over time, but from my experience, in the last 10 years (at least, maybe 15), Paiste started to restore the weights to the-or back towards- the original lighter specs.

LOL! You hit that thing at exactly 5:05, too! 😂👍 Sounds a lot like a 2oo2 to me! It's got that same kind of 'spark' 😊 Many years ago, in '88, my band were recording demos in a little studio with its own kit, and the hi-hats were also 5o5's and sounded really good, too! 😃 Better than my own at that time, Meinl 'Marathon' ones that were non-lathed and clearly modelled after pAisTe's RUDE series but made of brass. I came across this following video only recently which also has a neat side-by-side comparison of the two in it, along with a strong Aussie accent: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKSZfp-eZ9pgbMk 😄
