Boo Day 172 - Simba And Splash Visit Boo's Room With Boo In It - Feral Cats Socialization

The cats all got some morning play time. Splash has been guarding Boo's door. Someone threw up on the Catit Digger. The outside automatic feral cat feeder was refilled with dry cat food. Boo had more harness training. Both Simba and Splash walked into Boo's room while Boo was in his room. Simba growled alot. Stella loves to relax in the collapsible pet crate.

17:05, 17:21: Simba steathily scent-marks the Boo-room entrance, then beats a hasty retreat to neutral territory in the hall. Simba was a bit unsure, having treats inside Boo's room, hence the cautionary vocalizations. Simba, treat AND territory thief (well, reclaiming old territory). He and Boo --- and Simba !--- each find a happy space in the room (thanks to LF calming Boo)....so it seems this is starting well. (And a sigh of relief from me at the end. Whew!) Good job, all!!

Loved to see Boo playing and Simba, definitely they dont have the same style while playing- Boo is a jumper - a bit like my cat- Now, if I may, I think Simba was growling because he was sending a signal to Boo..... Much cause for celebration tonight, with Boo peacefully sharing the Boo Room with Simba (braving the under-daybed CatCave, then claiming the cat tower and then the window seat, no less!) -- and Splash loyally standing guard, then slipping gently into Boo's inner sanctum as well: granted, dear Lady, your mitigating presence made a huge difference in lowering Boo's tension level, but this is huge nonetheless. Three curious, beautiful cats sharing the space peacefully and silently: this is a gift from the feline gods, no question. Well done, noble Boo, mellow Simba and brave Splash.

Given Boo's Michael Jordan-style hops/Tony Hawk-worthy big air, I wonder whether there might be a feline version of canine ultimate Frisbee that Boo might like to play, or that might be devised for him, to knock off some of his energetic excess...and, yes, 14+ pounds of hard-jumping Boo landing on one is not something easy to ignore for a creature smaller than he is, so the more Boo can be tuckered out before mingling with his family, the better for all concerned. And a very astute observation re Splash's intelligence and sensitivity combining to turn him into the dedicated security guard-cat of the clowder: I recall getting that sense while watching his tireless patrolling of the hallway during the night-vision sequences. For all his apparent reticence, Splash is nonetheless both brave and conscientious enough to be willing to work to keep his family safe -- good on you, Splashie; your vigilance is a true gift. And while he keeps an eye on Boo, I do believe that Splash is also growing fond of the Velvet Wonder-cat, even if he doesn't recognize Boo as his dad _qua_ dad. And I agree re Hydrox being the most well-nourished feral/outdoor cat on the planet; I hope he's staying warm tonight (and every night) in his well-engineered shelter. Sleep tight, dear old veteran...

And Boo just has so much energy -- gotta find a way to direct it that doesn't involve pouncing on the other cats. Any ideas? Are there feline versions of the martial arts? Instill a little discipline along with those leaps?

Lisa Hart I would love to find a way to adapt _tai chi_ for feline bodies, as a bridge to the martial arts -- and I could see Boo ultimately becoming adept at _capoeira,_ the intense, dancelike Brazilian martial art full of leaps & twists. As for the "Best-Fed Feral Cat" contest idea: if that idea ever took hold, even if for a foolish reason of competition, how much good could be done as a result! Of course, the Lady would be a perpetual front-runner, given how Hydrox is the picture of solid nourishment (think of a slightly seedy Diamond Jim Brady, and you get the basic idea 😉🐱🍺🍗), but I would love to see hunger abolished among ferals forever, worldwide, even if just for bragging rights among humans.

I liked the two of them at the gate it was sweet. I noticed your door casing we had that happen when the cats were kittens when we were introducing them to the dogs.

Excellent job with introducing Splash and Simba to Boo. I think not reacting to Simba's growls is a good thing. Boo certainly seemed relaxed and he certainly didn't over react to the growls. Keeping the harness on for 20-30 minutes per day is not a big problem. I do think though Boo had enough near the end. Clever sweetie to gently knock the brush out of your hand. Boo is definitely trying hard not to over react, but my suggestion is to integrate them in neutral territory rather than Boos room or in the basement. Just a suggestion as you are clearly doing a great job!

Diana Yeow Neatly observed re Simba's growling: his body language wasn't at all aggressive or aggrieved, which suggests to me that Simba might have been vocalizing just to reinforce his presence, as if to say, "Hey, buddy, I'm still here, you know." Boo did indeed seem fairly relaxed then (though how much of that was due to the Lady's presence is hard to quantify), which can only be a very good thing; even better was Boo's ability to turn his back on Simba, as if to demonstrate that he had no fear of an attack from the younger cat. Today marked some true progress in the integration process, very much worth celebrating; may tomorrow bring other positive surprises for this slowly healing feline family.

Sammy will do the same thing if the food isn't smushed down. Wet food makes him lose his mind. He is very clever and will beg different people for more wet food. Thus we have his last feeding time written down on the white board above his bowl.

Splash looking fluffy. Cheese Puff vomits when she eats too much too quickly. Looks like the birds have been enjoying the outside feeder. Stella's bad mood😁. Would Boo like food? Um, yeah! He's very agile. Combat crawl😂. Not sure how i feel about a cat harness but if it helps with training, he should be able to get used to it. Red does really suit him. Simba is such a sweet cat, even when he growls. BTW, love the table with the suitcase top.

Also I was wondering if they should ALL have harnesses on. It would level the playing field. And Boo wouldn't feel singled out. He may be trying to figure out what he did wrong..he sees they don't have anything on. I'm sure it would be a challenge tho... Thinking about Boo❤

Debi Gillis I don't get the sense that Boo perceives his harness as a punishment, but rather as yet another special mark of distinction conferred upon him by his beloved human, and thus yet another element that places him above the other cats, at least in his mind; it doesn't hurt that he hears the Lady remind him of how especially attractive he looks while wearing the harness (or at least basks in her loving, positive feeling-tone then, even if he doesn't truly grok her semantic sense _per se_ about it), given how susceptible Boo Velvet is to well-aimed flattery. 😉🐱

Lionheart810 No, they don't dislike Boo _per se_ (well, give or take Stella 😉🐈👑), but the difference is a shifted power dynamic, to say nothing of the reality of a three-member society, forged among Stella, Splash & Simba during their indoor time without Boo, of which Boo has had to force a renegotiation for admittance (negotiations still in progress). Outside, they were a loose family of four, even if Boo might have been a satellite member thereof; inside, until the reintegration had begun, it's been three on one, with Boo the odd kitteh out until now. Clearly, the boyos are both fascinated by Boo, as the events of this video indicate, but it's still a complicated fascination; I, for one, cannot wait to watch it play out.

The other cats all like Boo, even though Stella has some issues with him. The only reason why they might not like him is because he's been jumping on them recently. I did notice that having a negative effect on them. If anything, they're a bit afraid and cautious of him.

Evilash, that was my take on it, too. Simba had scent-marked the doorway (both sides), then headed back out to the hall to see the reaction; Boo didn't respond. Simba wasn't sure he should be eating inside the newly-reclaimed room, but clearly those treats were HIS, and he was letting Boo (distracted though he was with his own crunchies) know it! (In a kind of mostly passive-slightly aggressive way.) Good thing LF was there, keeping all on even keel. Plenty of safe spaces for all to coexist in that room, and all the cats got a taste of that today.
