This scene really is authentic-looking. In the mid-70s, you could easily go into any disco or high school dance and see roomfuls of people moving in unison doing the Hustle or the Bus Stop like that. An amusement park near us used to have teen nights and in the mid-70s they'd set up an outdoor disco pavilion where you could see hundreds of teenagers with winged hair moving just like this under a disco ball.

The genius is that Dirk is a genuinely likable, sweet natured kid. After the abuse he suffered from his mother you actually cheer wildly for him when he's on the rise because he deserves happiness. It doesn't matter that he's a star in a shady industry, he's made it.

@remaftp Heather Graham is still beautiful now in 2023. I ran into her at LAX and we spoke for quite some time whilst in the club waiting for our flight. She was SO nice and telling me how beautiful I was. I complimented Heather as well. She said, “I’ve never had another woman (especially a stunningly gorgeous woman) compliment me so much.” I told her that there were two emotions that I didn’t feel: hate and jealousy. She asked if she could touch my hair as it’s so thick. She asked, “What’s your secret as you haven’t a wrinkle or a spot on your face? Do you use certain beauty products?” I told her that even though I lived in Florida on the beach that I NEVER go in the sun. We need Vitamin D for strong bones and teeth, and as women we’re prone to Osteoporosis. I simply take Vitamin D pills or gel tabs (2,000 IU’s per day.) I told her that I wash my face with unscented facial cleanser and use a very inexpensive unscented facial moisturizer, but I’m too lazy to do it each day! 😂 I never wear makeup unless my husband and I are going to the ballet or the opera or out with friends. I also told her that I’d never had a cigarette in my life, never tasted alcohol in my life or used drugs and I’m a Vegan and I drink a lot of water. For me; less is best. This dance scene was GREAT in “Boogie Nights” and I never tire of watching it. Heather Graham is not only very pretty, but very funny and kind. ♥️

Rollergirl was supposed to be Drew Barrymore, but she didn't want her rep further tainted by a 'not a porno-porno movie'. She apparently bashed PTA for being 'creepy' in begging her to take the role lol and that was pretty much her last shot at real acclaim in a REAL film. Heather had guts on those skates. One badly landed fall where the wrist goes and so does production lol nobody else could ever be Rollergirl.
