@@jb6712 I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. Such grief is forever, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. This is because our grief are the reminders of someone who is very special to us. It’s the reminder that love was present, and that even if it’s no longer in its original form, that love still exists. Curious Mind is quite right. When somebody is unable to enjoy happy music, it is indeed beyond most of us, who are fortunate not to have to face any tragic event or deal with unfathomable lasting grief. I just want to say what a pleasure it is to see someone playing some REALLY GOOD boogie woogie at a public piano without Dr. K stepping in to play HIS boogie woogie on the higher keys at the same time. I truly enjoy Dr. K's excellent abilities, I just wish he'd show more respect to other boogie woogie pianists and let them do their thing ALONE. 😐
@greghill77592 жыл бұрын
Can't disagree there, Rick. But hey, they're each doing it their own way, and if that was a genuinely spontaneous event, he's doing it the right way. Having said that, I'd give my very soul to stroll into a bar and play like Mr Nadra.

@20alphabet2 жыл бұрын
Let me tell you a little story... Brendan Kavanagh (Dr. K) approached a public piano a few years back to record a video, but found an older man seated at the piano playing. "Dr. K" proceeded to bully the old man until he left... recorded himself, then uploaded the video. He was excoriated in the comments section for his aggression toward the man by many viewers, including myself. Within days of posting my comment I received a message from Dr. K's mental therapist or psychiatrist telling me that while he didn't condone bullying, he was working out longstanding mental problems and I should be more understanding of his issues. I let him know that anyone who bullies an old man off a public piano, and anyone who would make excuses for such behavior, has no place in among the public. I got a few more messages (back when KZbin offered that option) and told the guy to get lost. Dr. K, as he calls himself, is a stain on every piano bench he sits. Calling him a great boogie woogie piano player is like calling Hitler a great military strategist. Even if he can play, I wouldn't offer a hoot.
@muchkneaded2 жыл бұрын
@@20alphabet Thank you for this insight. Not long after hearing Dr. K for the first week or so, I purchased his "Boogie Woogie Bundle." But the more videos I watched, the more upset I got with him. The "costumes" he sometimes wears, such as a construction worker with squeaky clean clothing, made me wonder, "Who does this guy think he's fooling?" I then stepped back from judging when I realized, "That's just Dr. K!" In other words, that's who he is, and who am I to judge anyone's personality? I can tell he has a huge ego, in addition to the "bully" personality, but his issues don't have to be mine. He's another unique human being, so I send him love and wish him well.
@heroicmuffin99722 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about Dr.K. But from the videos that i saw, what rubbed me the wrong way was when he aproaches amatures playing the piano and asking them to teach him how to play only to then show off and make them look stupid. He plays well, definitely. But he could really be more compassionate.

I took a beginner jazz dance class in college once for a semester, and then I went to my sister's wedding in New Orleans. For the reception, my sister and new brother-in-law had a live jazz band of a few people perform. Most of the attendees were just drunk shuffling around while the band played, so it no surprise when the band was clearly just doing what they were being paid to do. Then I get up with my other sister and start putting what I learned in my jazz dance class to work while my mom and dad started reaching back to their old college days when they also took some dance classes together. You could instantly hear and feel the difference in the mood of the band when they saw people actually dancing to their music. They started cranking it! I can only imagine how this guy felt when he saw that couple actually dancing to his music.
