Lyrics:
Let us begin, what, where, why or when
Will all be explained like instructions to a game
See I'm not insane, in fact I'm kind of rational
When I be asking you, "Who is more dramatical?"
This one or that one, the white one or the black one
Pick the punk and I'll jump up to attack one

Few will understand how powerful it was for a young black leader to tell us, young black kids in the early 90s, to be vegetarian and conscious. The danger wasn't merely in what Kris Parker imparted but in what he espoused. We would've crushed markets as we now know them. I remember that, between KRS and PE, I understood a clear message that I would never serve the government as a "sheeple" and that, as a black girl, I was not a full "American" with all the rights and abilities afforded to me. Those brothers shaped the way I thought and my ability to to think outside of my box. They did the same for so many that these brothers deserve medals for their victory in teaching true freedom from ALL oppressors. Viva Kris and Kenny Parker, along with the whole BDP crew!

+Kali Kross Well said. I was listening to this from a white, middle class, Mid-West living room in the day. Yet, I had a sense (in my middle school mind) that the artists you mentioned were doing something bold, intelligent and, yes, dangerous. I loved BDP and KRS-ONE. I loved P.E. Had a P.E. shirt I wore to school. P.E. posters in my room ("Fear of a Black Planet"...I wonder what my parents thought...although, they bought me the shirt, the posters, the tapes) and WORE OUT their tapes on my Walkman riding the bus to and from school. Of course, it wasn't until I was older that I better realized they were speaking the truth for a whole generation of young people on a different level than they were speaking to me. Regardless, I miss the excitement of those days.

For how many years now? Who else does that? He is the Goat no question about it. People who don't know or who don't get it may disagree. But they will just be wrong.

Going to a KRS1 concert tonight! I'm so stoked. He's one of the few rappers that never adjusted his style to fit the pop trends. He's always been real, always in your face, always political, always enlightening and always dope as hell. Thank god for people like KRS1!!!!!!
@DjDialogic
@DjDialogic 9 жыл бұрын
Computer Djs ruined the set. They had no idea how to work the mic/music volume, kept scratching over KRS1's lyrics, started taking selfies while he was MCing and were dancing around like they were the star of the show. KRS1 pretty much had them lower their music so it could barely be heard. It was very disrespectful to this hip-hop godfather. KRS1's lyrics, flow and freestyle was dope though.

Romencer17 Yah, I was the big black dude with long hair kicking it with the BBoys. I'm also a vinyl Dj and I soo wish I had brought a grip of beat records. I would have just plopped them on the stage and waited for the go ahead from KRS1. Those other Dj's were fools.

DjDialogic ah, cool. i'm not a Dj so I don't have the knowledge to know just how bad they were compared to others but I sure enjoyed watching him put them to work. Definitely thought it was dumb when the guy was dancing with his phone out when he was just getting yelled at a minute before lol, but I thought it added a really funny aspect to the show. I can of course see your perspective, if it was a craft i knew the ins and outs of i probably would not have been as amused. just goes to show though that KRS-One could have any chump behind him and still rock the house and make everyone happy just by his own skill.
