The Stop the Violence Movement was formed by rapper KRS-One.
During a Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy concert, a young fan was killed in a fight; galvanized into action, KRS-One founded the Stop the Violence Movement. Comprised of some of the biggest stars in contemporary East Coast hip-hop, the movement released a single ('Self Destruction') in 1989 with all proceeds going to the National Urban League.

So the music was like this because they had strong leaders, the new generation is the way it is because the people they should be looking to were wiped away by modern media and once social media came into the picture there was so much noise that its easy to get swayed into doing whatever for money. Especially in the west where the fast life and clout is king apparently.

@@gradymorrrowjr37 hey gradymorrowjr, it is true that there are many forces out there who don't have our interests at heart or see anything wrong with the powers that be trying to destroy us with the agendas that are designed to dismantle our psyche, our unity and our motivation to keep going. But even when it seems like we don't care what's happening to each other, I believe there are many of us who do care. For those of us who do, we are up against an evil that our people don't understand. Music was our therapy, it was a bridge builder in my generation. I'm sad to see how they use the music industry and money to dirty, dilute and dumb down the message. They have literally changed the frequency and vibration of music to f us up. Hang in there, we have to continue to fight against it and the 1st step is in bring kind and letting each other Know we care. Stay up my brother....we are a brave and resilient people. The love we have runs deeply....that's why you're here listening... carrying the positivity forward. Shalom and blessings ❣️💗🌺

It’s crazy bcuz corporate America didn’t even consider Hip Hop real music in the beginning; they wanted no parts of it! Then when certain collaborations of Hip Hop and other genres started happening and the Grammys created a category for it, they noticed a little bit. But when THEIR CHILDREN AT HOME started listening, they realized, “hey we can really make some money off this shit”. And now, fast forward to 2019, here we are...in a state of the worst wannabe Hip Hop I’ve ever heard in my life! And yes, I can say that bcuz I was there in its beginnings!

Well da folks from da lil' hat community that control the media markets, are the same people who killed the conscious Hip Hop Community when they bought the labels out and turned around and push more of the negative aspects of Hip Hop More subtle "Liberal Indoctrination" and Hip Hop, along with Reality Tv turned out to be the most useful tool for Social Engineering from the Covert wing of the dominant society, that's why Malcolm X was telling us to watch out for the 🦊 but we wouldn't listen💯💀🎯

Yup, absolutely correct, unfortunately, divide & conquer by completely destroying our culture while we continue to destroy our-selves even more. You can't blame them too much, tho. We let them & do it to our-selves. Kid's nowadays are far too ignorant & selfish to understand this, yet alone care. They're just a bunch of brainwashed hyperviolent materialistic savages, way beyond ever being salvageable. I'm really glad I never had Kids. TRUE STORY. I was 12 when this came out. I'm from southwest Philly (hood) but by 12 we moved to Wnyyefield which is a suburb of west Philly & where Will Smith is from....its NOT good @ all, no matter what the shows intro song says...anyway, 2 other rappers were from there , Steady B & Cool C. They killed a cop & are doing life now...anyway, 1 day I'm on my friend Corey's porch next to where Steady B lived , & SB & another producer were on their porch talking about this song & video that's coming & he wanted SB on it but they were only using NYC rappers. The producer was like "its bullshit anyway, its just a chance for the IT rappers to all put their face out there more. Some of the artist don't even give a fuck about the message".....now I'm 12 , ear hustling & hearing this! @ that moment I promised to go w my OWN heart & NOT what another person says that they stand for.....bcuz they might be full of shit.

We have self destructed. And now we are watching it fall in slow motion with whats going on now. I almost cried rewatching this message decades later. 😢

I just remember everybody being a little pissed because L.L.'s verse was cut from the video. I was 10 when this dropped so I didn't understand that him and Kool Moe Dee had beef behind the scenes 😂!

Exactly the evil ones of this society understood the importance of black unity and created a new narrative to destroy the black community. We need to wake up as Teddy Pendergrass said.

In this era, they were in the mist of controversy which is still prevalent today. They stood up for black power and stop the voilence...I hate that when the so called "new jack era" came in, things changed drastically. I commend them for wat they did back then all the way from KC...I hope that ppl see this and really send comments my way...for I'm tryn to start a movement for our ppl to get back on stopping the violence yo!!!
