Eldertalk: Linda & Her Books

Күн бұрын

I've been collecting a lot of books and since the end of the year is nigh, I thought - "This would be a great time to tell the Booktubers about all the new books I'm adding to my collection." Yes, let's do that. And since I'm not on the "Read What You Own" challenge YET... (for me, that starts Jan.1) I've been buying a lot of books, and I got a few freebies as well.
I will have to do one more book haul video after the first of the year as I have some books on order that haven't arrived yet.
#bookhaul #bookhauls #bookacquisitions #books #booktuber #booktube #bookishchat #bookishthings etc. etc. etc.

I took an art history class in college for an extra credit and really enjoyed it. Happy you found another book.

Art history was a wonderful course of study. I'd do it again except I promised myself not to enroll in any more college courses because they are too stressful for me. I think I was about 50 when I stopped doing that to myself.

Yes I understand not wanting used books. I’ve gotten myself “used” to the idea due to budget. 😉

Yes, budget considerations have made me opt for used books. When I lived in North Idaho I lived in a town with a lot of thrift shops and some had wonderful used book sections. But now I live in a tiny mountain town with no thrift shops or bookstores of any kind, so I usually buy books online.

This year I plan on buying some New books. I am tired of the thrift store dictating what I can read. You have some nice purchases. I have John Adams but right now I'm not in the mood to read it. Take care -James

@@Littlebiglibrary We will have our John Adams readalong in Sept/Oct and you're welcome to join in. I like new books but used bookstores are fun to browse in. You never know what you'll find. It is like searching for buried treasure.

No, your talk was not too long. Just right. Had that same History of art in a college class and still have it on my shelves to refer to. There is a much updated one I would like to have but will not be buying as too much moulah for that particular book. Nice you had the money to buy the books you wanted. By the way, I am the opposite of you in that I love old used books if they are in good shape. Love the feel of them, the look and the smell or scent of them, and often the covers are interesting on very old editions. I don't tend to purchase used books with underlining however unless I really must have that book. Nice seeing you again.

Old books do look beautiful on a shelf. The art history book... I'd like to find an updated new copy! When I looked for it at Amazon, I couldn't find it. Maybe I didn't look hard enough? Looked in the wrong place? It really is a treasure book to keep forever, and I mourned for years about losing in during my early divorce. Good to see you here!

I'm so glad to see all the ergodic books you got. I am excited to hear your thoughts as you read them. For Cain's Jawbone I am considering making it a project to work on throughout 2025. It would be fun to compare notes as we each try to figure it out.

@@paperpagespossibilities oh, that would be fun. Like an ergodic buddy read. Do you have a Voxer account? My handle there is BookLadyLinda. A lot of us use Voxer to communicate away from Booktube. I think that would help with this book especially.

Since you are beginning to enjoy ergodic literature, have you read House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski? I've not read it, but I'm intrigued by it. OK, now I'm at the end of your video and see you just hauled it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Cain's Jawbone! I almost bought that a year ago but decided I probably wouldn't be able to figure it out, lol. Thanks for sharing so many interesting books with us. And congratulations on being a published author. That is fantastic! 🥰

Oh, thank you! I probably won't get around to reading House of Leaves right away. I'd like to read some of the others first. I'm going to start Cain's Jawbone soon. It looks like a hobby more than like a book. I'm thinking of photocopying the pages so I can switch them around.

I agree to take time over transitioning with Forks over Knives meal plan etc. I transitioned to veganism over a period of a few months. As I said, going vegan (high carb low fat) saved my life. The art books look wonderful, especially that art history one. Will be interested to hear your thoughts about the ergodic fiction.

I read Forks over Knives around 2016? It's a good jumpstarter for healthy eating. Went vegan for almost two years. Cholesterol dropped 60 points in just over 3 months with no medication. I didn't stick with but the New Year is just around the corner....

I've been vegetarian almost all my adult life, but I gave it up a few years back because my hair was falling out and I thought I wasn't getting enough protein. So I've been eating occasional chicken and fish, but not liking it because I'm really accustomed to vegetarian food and cooking. But now I've discovered high-potency Biotin which I think is good for my hair issue, and I'm pretty much mostly vegetarian again, but not fanatically so. Every time in the past I tried to be vegan my mind and body rebelled against it, so I'm not sure I'll be able to make this switch, but I'm giving it another try with the help of this book.

@@someothercharacter - sounds like a good plan. Small changes are good. I recently eliminated ice cream. I'm not doing so well with eliminating cheese. All the canned salmon the community center gave me - I'm thinking of planting under corn next spring - you know, like the Native Americans did, to get their corn/squash/beans to grow well.

Did the ending of Area 51 scare you? It did me. I know a lot of what "they're" up to, but I didn't know that! And mayb Palides should investigate missing 411 with their connection. 🤔 Hooray for getting some of your old book titles back in your inventory. I'm participating in the epistolary reading too, but my library doesn't even have Dear Mr. Knightley. =/ House of leaves has a lot of trigger events. Just thought you should know before you try reading it. How come you haven't published your ya manuscripts?
@Eldertalk
@Eldertalk 7 күн бұрын
My YA manuscripts mostly need more editing before they can be published. One has been edited six times at least, but it is the first in a series of four. And I do not like series!!! So I'd really like to get all four books edited then publish them together in one volume, to save people the expense of buying four separate books. House of Leaves, being a horror novel, I think has to be triggering, and I'm in no hurry to read it. Thanks for the warning. I just want to experience some variety in the ergodic novel genre. I'm mainly interested in the genre because of my novel writing. Weird book formatting intrigues me. That's why I like epistolary novels as well. About Area 51, yes, the last chapter was startling, but after reading some of the things far-right conservatives were writing online after Trump left office, thinking specifically of Q people and the app Telegram, if half of that is true, it would make me think Area 51 is covering up a terrible and terrifying scandal, and that could be what she was alluding to.
