I'm crying so much, especially at the LOTR story... those were my dad's favorite books and he didn't live to see me graduate from high school. I read them all during college to honor his memory and now they're some of my favorites too. I feel like he gifted them to me in a way and they're so precious to me because of him. I can remember being twelve years old and going to my local library in search of the Heroes of Olympus books. I didn't know how many they'd have and turns out they had all five. So I checked them out despite my schoolbag being full, and these were THICK hardback books. The librarian was very concerned. The walk home was agonising and I couldn't see where I was going with all the books in the way. I devoured that series in a matter of days.

My favorite book memory: in my hometown, once a year, there is “trash day” where you can leave bulk items (furniture, tree branches, etc) on your curb because huge garbage trucks were making rounds to take all of it. My mom and I were driving and passed a house with boxes and boxes of books.. I remember being perplexed why someone would get rid of so many books (we were never financially able to purchase my own books)... so I just remember feeling like I found treasures. I was about 11 years old and still.. that was the best day. They were all really old romance paperbacks, but I still picked out what I could and devoured them.

I remember when I was eight years old, I lost my dad, and it was very sudden and I don’t have the time to consume or understand what’s happened, and that kind of triggered my PTSD. And I remember I went to a bookshop and saw Harry Potter and the philosopher stone, although I was beginning to learn how to read at school, but I know I wanted to read it, and it was the only thing I wanted to do around that time. I kept the book by my side 7/24 and running around in school catching every single chance to read it. And now I’m 23 years old, I appreciate that I have found such beautiful thing in my life, especially in a time I needed the most.

I think that books mean so much to me because they have always felt as a sort of solace to me. I have always read a lot, some years more than others. But I remember when I was in sixth grade I read the most I ever have. That year I did not have a lot of friends in my classroom so I would always quickly do my work and read at school. Then I read even more when I got home. I think that time was when I was the happiest ever, reading for hours when I got home and going to sleep hugging my book like a teddy bear. I read so many amazing books during that time, and I always felt at peace when I read. As I have gotten older, sadly I have not been able to read being busy with school and other things. But sometimes, when I have the time I grab one of the books I read during that time and it feels as if I was reliving the first time I ever read that book.

All of these are so relatable. Reading has always been so close to my heart. It’s one thing I’ll never get tired of. I still remember the first day I laid my hands on Harry Potter and the philosophers stone. Since then reading has always been the first thing on my bucket list. The Scholastic book fair brings back hardcore memories too but for me a favourite memory has to be being given a copy of Skulduggery Pleasant and binge reading all five books that were out at the time in a week, my mum still buys me the new one every year. in 8th grade, we were reading The Outsiders by S.E Hinton and watching the movie at the same time. despite the fact that my teacher accidentally spoiled the fact that Johnny my favourite character dies I still cried, it was the first time a book/movie made me cry the girl sitting next to me asked me "why are you crying there just characters." I just looked at her then walked over to my friends who understood how I felt and comforted me.

One of my favourite book memories (and one of my most important memories in general) was getting my first book ... to be specific my first English book since it's my second language.... I remember I went with my mom to a private school for a visit.... the principal was kind enough to offer me any book from the ones scattered on the coffee table.... I was thirteen at the time and out of all the books I felt one of them calling me (literally) I picked it up and it read "percy Jackson and the Olympians: the lightning thief" and I remember I though it was the coolest thing in the world .... I opened it and read the first line "look,I didn't want to be a halfblood"and I absolutely fell in love ... even in my native language I was never quit a reader ... but this book really changed my perception of reading ... I don't care if there are better books out there ... this is the one that I had my first book memories with and it will forever have a special place in my heart ..... (and on my shelf)

Harry Potter hasn't been a huge part of my life, yet it's a huge part of one of my favourite book memories. I was a latecomer to the Harry Potter party and was reading the books for the first time in high school. I was also working at my local library at that time. One weekend, I was set to work Friday night and all day Saturday, so I planned to finish The Deathly Hallows on Friday after work. Something came up on Friday night, so on Saturday I was left with 50 pages to finish... and a full day of work ahead. Every minute of my breaks that Saturday, I went to the back room and read. All my work was done an hour or two before the end of my shift, so I asked my supervisor what to do next. Her answer? Go read! I was apprehensive to be at work and just... not do work... but once she learned I was finishing the Harry Potter series for the first time ever, she INSISTED that I read. I remember thinking "just like a librarian!" and also "OH GOODNESS THANK YOU I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS." That gift of permission was so precious to me. (Especially as an angsty teen who didn't want to be interrupted by my parents at home while reading the earth-shattering end of The Deathly Hallows.)

I can still remember the joy of going to the local library back when I was in primary school. My parents would always drop us off there after school on their way to work and I often ended up borrowing 16 books using all the 8 library cards which once belonged to my brothers and sisters. That was probably one of the most precious perks I had being the youngest out of 8 siblings.

This was a beautiful idea. And it's fitting that I watched this video today; this morning, I visited my local bookstore for the first time in months. I've been scared to leave my house with the whole pandemic going on. But I wanted to see if they had The Lost Book of the White by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu (they did, which is very exciting!). Standing in that cute little shop, alone except for the very kind owner, I felt an almost overwhelming sense of happiness. I forgot how much I LOVE being in a bookstore and being surrounded by books. I'm really glad I took the chance to actually go outside!

When I was in seventh grade, my middle school made this entire event out of the release of the first Hunger Games movie. The after school program ran the whole thing so if you were in the program and completed the twelve challenges, you automatically got to go for the field trip. Everybody else got their name thrown in a jar once for each challenge they completed. The challenges I barely remember but one was to pass the AR test. I think one was to make a game. It was just really fun and, looking back, it's amazing how hyped the entire school got for this book. I was always a reader but even those who never read were reading The Hunger Games. For the field trip, we took a bus to the local movie theater and had a private screening. It was awesome.

One of my best memories of books is from sixth grade. I went to the school library and I checked out a book called “Shiver” but Maggie Steifvater. I never really read that much in elementary school besides things they had us read. I just remember falling in love with that book. I still love it. It’s the story that shaped my love of reading and books.

Oh that was so beautiful 🥰 I have so many great book memories! In 2016 when I flatted with 3 crazy boys (so many more stories in that haha) our house was pretty cold so in winter we started a blanket burrito book club where we'd each wrap up in a blanket like a burrito in the lounge, put on some instrumental music and read 🥰 we'd often share funny snippets of our books with each other as we went. It was such a lovely way we spent cold evenings, I really miss living with them! (I felt a bit like Jess from new girl 😂)

When I was little and shared a room with my sisters, I always had to read by the closet door at night because otherwise I couldn't read. When we renovated the basement so that there would be more bedrooms, my sister was having trouble sleeping in her new room, so she would ask me to read by her closet door until she fell asleep. I don't remember how long that went on, but it's pops up in my memory from time to time.

One of my favourite book memories is from when I was about 8 or 9 and my mother took me to town to buy the next book in The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. I adored that series as a child. I remember sitting on the train home with the book in my lap, I wouldn't let it out of sight. It was still wrapped in plastic, but I didn't want to open it before I was home, so I just kept looking at the beautiful cover. The anticipation was killing me 😆

I love all of these. The scholastic book fair is one of my favorite memories with books as well as remembering who made me love to read - my grandpa. Every weekend, he will take me to the library and let me check out at least 1-2 books to make sure that I was going to finish them - this started when I was around 4. He would always tell me "Let's go on an adventure" and we would read together. When I got older and the book fairs were available, he would give me money or he would order all the books that I want (which was like 4-5). Now, I have all these "memories" with characters and the different worlds that I have been to because of him.

I loved this video, it brought me comfort and a smile to my lips when I was feeling a little low. Thank you, you wonderful human being, this video means more than you might think. :) I remember learning to read in school and I was immediately hooked. So when school ended, I rushed to my small local library around the corner and was devastated when the librarian didn't let me lend the books I wanted to read. I ran home crying to my mum to tell her what happened. She went back with me to explain that I was rather advanced in my reading classes, and only after I proved to him that I understood what I wanted to read, he let me lend any book I want. I think I was his most avid reader, and always ended up talking with him about what I had read.

My mom is 80 years old. As a kid, she had her mom write a note to the library saying my mom could check out teen books, once she read the entire Children’s Section. Lol. My mom checked out the max amount allowed every week. Walked to and from the library by herself.

it's good to know that there's so many people who have a really special memory with the last harry potter book. i was reading it and finished it during a time when i went to my grandpa's house and it was also the last time i saw him. harry potter really helped me deal with my grief because just knowing that im not alone in this. it was also during a time when my group of friends left me so i would wear this one wizard hat pin everywhere with me to know i have something to look at that brings me comfort.

Mine is recent because it's about my boyfriend. He knew I loved books and that my ex used to make me get rid of my books. So he encouraged me to build my own library by buying and building my book shelves and taking me book shopping. I'm blessed to have such a thoughtful loving man in my life.

This was so wholesome 🥺🥺🥺 It somehow made me kinda emotional and now I'm reminiscing about my experience with books growing up. I haven't considered myself a reader for the longest time cause the reading I did was never considered "reading" since I only listened to audio books for the longest time cause I'm a slow reader. This year I've actually started to read physical books and I've fallen in love with that form of reading as well. Books will always be a huge part of my childhood. My favorite book memories are my mother reading to me every night. We mad it through some big boys! years later I found out that by reading to me every night my mother overcame her fear of reading out loud which she had since she was a child.

This is so beautiful! Definitely makes me remember why I love booktube :) One of my favorite book memories was hearing Kate Bush's song "Wuthering Heights" and loving it immediately. I loved that someone could be inspired by literature to write a pop song (with accompanying atmospheric music video)! After that, I was inspired to read Wuthering Heights which is now one of my favourite books. I don't think I would love the song as much without the book or love the book as much without the song. This is such a beautiful work of art. Officially one of my fave videos on booktube ever since discovering this addictive YT community 3 years ago. As an avid reader and lover of books in general, I could relate to so many of the stories and/or personal experiences. It brings back memories of reading books in the dark and under my blanket with the help of my celphone's screen light because I'm not allowed to read fictional books on school nights, as well as that time when I teared up upon reading wendy leave a morose peter pan and the children of neverland for her home in the city. Another thing I take away from watching this video is the nostalgia that hits me whenever I recall the first time I fell for a book and reading. For this, I have to give a shoutout to that school librarian in grade school who introduced me to the wonder that is books and the magic that is reading. And a shoutout to the book that made me fall hard - Mary-Kate and Ashley's Sweet 16 #2: Wishes and Dreams. ^^ P.S. I was in 3rd grade. P.P.S. That front book cover got me. 'Twas so pretty. My fav book memory is when i first read the Harry potter series. It was from their where I started. Me and my brother actually fought over who gets to read the last book. I got the book first so i went to the room lit a scented candle and got some coffee sat down and read it

I've always had a high reading level and when I was little I didn't know what to do with it because I didn't think I even liked reading. It was like that until one day when I was about four or five and I went in my sister's room (while she was in the middle of doing difficult homework) crying because I had been either bullied by the neighborhood kids or ignored by my siblings all day. She gave me a hug, told me it would be okay, and said she had some new friends for me. I asked her where they were and she pulled her ratty mass market copy of Redwall by Brian Jacques off of the little bookshelf next to her desk and gave it to me. I devoured that book in three days, often hiding under the covers with my dad's flashlight to read it until I literally couldn't keep my eyes open. I kept going back for more until one day she came in my room with one of the sequels that I had read numerous times and told me to keep it because I had read it so many times. I later found a friend through that very sequel, gifting it to another kid at a Bible study when I was 10 or 11 and I'm still friend with her today. Those books literally saved me from a lonely childhood. If I could, I'd love nothing more in the world to give Mr. Jacques a giant hug and say thank you to him for giving me friends when I didn't have any.

When I was in high school, one of my best friends gave me a copy of one of her books as a birthday present. It was titled "Between the Lines" by Jodi Picoult and her daughter. When I first read it, I eventually fell in love with it. I even took it to school with me and read it during the lunch period. I loved the two main characters Delilah and Oliver and how I so badly wanted them to be together. The book also had illustrations and passages of a fairy tale that Delilah was reading from. After reading it, I learned there was a companion for it (I got it in a heartbeat). I had a feeling that she knew that I would love this book because she knew that my favorite genre is fantasy. If it was not for her, I would have never read my favorite book. Thank you, Alyssa.

I have sooooo many memories that involves books or completely revolves around them, but one of my wierder ones was when i read one of my favourite books aloud to my mom. I would make voices for each character and she thought it was really funny, but when we came to a point where one of my favourite characters died i just completely broke down (like i did when i read it the first time) i could barely get through the page and my mom asked if she should do it but i was stubborn and i WANTED TO READ IT TO HER! so i did, with tears running down my face and a very shakey voice. But i did it!

One time, I was at a bookfaire with my friends and they don't read as much as I do and also there were some of them who arrived at the faire later than the rest of us. By the time the second party arrived I had already bought 12 books and still wasn't done. Everyone was looking at me super weird, but I felt like I had some super power and that of course was reading.

[Long post alert jeje] This is so wholesome I am inspired to share my favourite book memory. It comes back to when I was 9 and there was a program in school in which we had to read mandatory for homework every day at least 15 minutes. At the time mom was studying her bachelor's degree while being the awesome and strong mother she is and she would drag me from TV to read aloud (so I wouldn't cheat lol) my Disney encyclopedia (it was a thing we got from an old set of DVD's to learn english that my parents bought for me. I am from Mexico btw). So I would read for 15 minutes everyday about the universe, history, dinosaurs, science, inventions and so on. My mom would cheat as well and got me reading for more than 15 minutes and it was funny because the day came when I no longer waited until she said "time's up u can go back to watch TV". She would tell me time was over and I just kept reading and it didn't occurred to me how awesome it was to know stuff and when I got more into books later and I read Shakespeare for the first time I still had this feeling of getting to know stuff and I realized reading is so amazing because you are told these amazing stories that just keep filling your soul and mind until your mind becomes a palace and every story feels like I am 9 again and I am just reading about the universe. Thank you Ariel for bringing back to me those days of my childhood. Lots of love for u and everybody

one of my main goals in therapy right now is to be able to sit down and enjoy reading a book again, i used to read fairly often as a kid but as I grew older and more anxious, distracted, it's become a lot harder, i really want to be able to go back to that because I still love having and collecting books so much

I have so many fond memories with books but my top two are when I was in school in y5 (uk) I’d finish all my work in class super quick so I’d get permission to go read in the school library because the teacher had nothing else for me to do and I’d sit in the corner and read the same ghost story book, there was always rumours that the school was haunted so it made reading in the old library super fun. Also I remember when my now fiancé and I were first dating he’d visit me on his lunch break and we’d read this big true crime book I had, in bed for the whole hour, we’d take turns at reading pages out loud to each other 💛

The book fair was the best! It always happened at our schools around the same time as parent-teacher interviews. One year, after meeting with my teachers, my mom came home and slipped a 'Dear Canada' book under my pillow because she was proud of me.

I love this! I remember getting addicted to my first series - Confessions of a shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. I would save up my allowance to be able buy the next series. Bookstore hunting till I find the next book. It's very exhilirating!!
