Loved your review, though I interpreted the ending totally differently! I did not have such a personal connection, but I loved the dreamy drug-like haze the book puts you in, wondering what's going on and what everything means. I loved putting together theories and realizing the depth of Samantha's loneliness was so intense that the only people who remembered her name and listened to her were people she had created.

"Samantha's loneliness was so intense that the only people who remembered her name and listened to her were people she had created." My. Mind. Is. Blown. Well spotted! What a beautiful use of Awad's writing skills. I adore this book. I really really appreciate you pointing that out. That's such a valuable observation of the book.

in the book Samantha talks about how a lady is reading aloud about schizophrenia and how the lady reads symptoms like they are a recipe she needs ingredients for. then the guy she created (max) asked her if she had found her bunny yet. so i definitely think Samantha suffers from schizophrenia and the line is purposefully blurred between reality and imagination, just like how it realistically. i also think maybe the girls were killing and sacrificing actually bunnies and real people and samantha played it off in a unbelievable way that is left up to interpretation. definitely confusing but i think it’s left that way for the reader to decide and take it how they want.

Yeah, this one is weird to classify. I saw Goodreads put it on their horror category for their choice awards. I had a friend read this, and I was just like... did it get real weird yet. There is just this point where is goes SO OUT THERE. I still don't know if I like it. Its memorable though, and I would be interested in seeing this converted into screen.

I would love to see a screen version of it! I can see why it might not be everyone's favorite. Definitely memorable, you're absolutely right!

***SPOILERS***** I finished this book a couple days ago and I just loved it. I don't know clearly what the heck the author was going for with it all... which I just love. They do make a reference to witchcraft at one point and I was thinking it might be a sort of "the craft meets mean girls" sorta vibe ... which makes the most sense to me. Like, the swan changing might have been why the girls excepted her into their fold because she did it without a group... just like she did later with the stag... it connects the story a little more clearly for me. But I also don't think there is a wrong way to take this one... it's written so well. I just really really loved it so much. I'm so happy I got to hear someone talk about it! Thanks for this! I came back to edit and add this hahaha The witchcraft angle was made more solid for me when at graduation the girls were all battered from the final incident. Unless I missed another thing that could have left them in that state? I want to read it again with a hilighter and annotation flags. hahaha

You're so lovely for giving a spoiler warning! So considerate! I somewhat remember the reference to witchcraft but I was suspicious the entire time. Oh, yeah! The graduation. I forgot! It had been a few months since I read it when I recorded the review and I kind of skimmed it but didn't do a complete read through. That's such a good catch! Think she'll make a sequel? I'd love one! Or at least another book in the same universe.

I know this is an old video, but I have to recommend Scream Queens the show to you. It's very similar to what you're saying they need to do for an adaptation, and it's definitely a Cult series. WATCH IT and report back :_)

I agree with many things you comment on and I found your interpretation of the ending insightful - though I understood it differently. But I'm sorry to say I thought you gave away spoilers on your non-spoilery section (what do the bunnies do to men).
