It's been a while since I read this book so my memory is unreliable, but I recall being really scared reading it. I got so shocked at how nonchalant Peter was in regards to other people. I think Wendy said something when they where flying the first time about how she was afraid he would stop saving them when they fell cause he might get bored of it? And also the part about how sometimes the lost boys didn't get to eat cause he had pretend dinners. That just really scared me for some reason.

Fun facts: in the original draft, Captain Hook and Peters roles were reversed. The Crocodile is based on Moby Dick. And the person who plays captain was originally supposed to play Ms Darling instead of Wendy's father since Captain Hook was originally supost to be a woman

You really should watch the 2003 film of 'Peter Pan'. It's the most faithful to Barrie's work, and it's quite well done.

NEHOMAS2 I think Spielberg's "Hook" was the best Peter Pan adaptation. Yes, 2003 film is the most faithful one but Spielberg nailed the atmosphere and the spirit of the book.

I tried it. It's actually for kindergarteners (or babies). Even my 3rd grade kids couldn't stand it.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I've had the urge for years to see where all the renditions stemmed from. It's one of my favorite stories, regardless of who's performing/directing it.

Epilogue also breaks my heart! Also, I don't know if anybody has mentioned it here yet, but in the dvd extras on the most recent live action Peter Pan movie (with Jeremy something), they do a version of the epilogue (although it's not edited very well.)

"Coraline, not Caroline! Not Caroline at all!" -- Old man upstairs in the film version. Haha oh yeah I have, saw the movie 5 times in theaters too. I think the film is absolutely magical. The book was great too.

I love your honesty dude - A bloke who reads a whole range of works and isn't afraid to discuss his emotional reaction to them? Excellent stuff mate. This is an emotional work. I'm 24 - I don't think I'll ever grow up haha! It does tug the heart strings towards the end, no question.

But that is also why that last chapter is so good (and it's a shame they exclude it sometimes I didn't even know that!) because it shows some actual consequences to the way that Peter behaves and I think even he finally realizes that he can't just expect people to always be there when he calls. Great review btw, I agree with everyone else the board wall is a really cool idea :)

The story of the children adopted by J. M. Barry is really sweet. I remember well the movie with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet they made about this story - the title is "Neverland" - heart-breaking and emotional, I've no shame admitting I cried a whole lot.

Thanks a lot. And absolutely. It felt nice knowing I had it there for security, not having to keep everything in my head or unprofessionally look down at notes. I think it'll be a great fit.

Haha yeah, I can understand that. There's a number of things like that that kind of made me chuckle, but I might omit when reading to little kids.

Tinkerbell isn't THAT bad in the book. Or, at least, I didn't think so. Have you seen the Disney version lately? I'm not talking about the latest Tinkerbell movies. I'm talking about the original Disney Peter Pan. I thought that she was the one character that Disney got perfectly right. She has such an attitude in that movie.

Brothers Karamazov is right near the top of my list of books I want to read. It's length is the only thing putting me off, as it would mean a pretty substantial gap in video production. I really do want to get into him though.

Fun fact: J.M. Berrie wrote the stage play Peter Pan first. That became a huge success so he decided to write a book for it which was the book also called Peter Pan. Then he wrote this book, Peter and Wendy, which is just a more detailed, more romantic, version of Peter Pan. Then he wrote the sequels. So the books Peter Pan and Peter and Wendy are not the same book. They are two different books. My favorite is Peter and Wendy because I'm a sucker for the romance. :)

I knoooow, and just like I said I remembered it right after I stopped recording. That's a future possibility -- I've read it a few years back, but it's worth a reread. They're my two favorite Disney movies by far, and the original stories are just as good.

I seem to remember the scene of Peter missing parts of time somewhere in "Hook". It's been awhile since I've seen the movie, so I guess it's time for a re-watch! XD Great review, though! If you do more children's literature, might I suggest my childhood favorite: Pippi Longstocking? Oh, and I'm still hoping for a Virginia Woolf review. ;] haha

This is great stuff! When you posted that video asking if you should review YA/children's fiction, this is exactly the kind of material I was envisioning! No crappy manufactured literature, only high quality books on your channel, I think. Also, your review is great, actually mirrored a lot of what I felt after reading the book.

It explains really well in the book that since Tinkerbell is so small she can only have one feeling at a time. I think she truly loves Peter, I mean she gave her life for him, but she gets conpletely full of jealousy when she sees how much Peter and Wendy care for each other.

I thought that Peter was Wendy’s imagination of freedom! And Trankle everything she hates about her self... rudeness ruthless jealousy and sexuality. Hook is his father, the hold hand thing is her cutting it off because he used it on her? Would love to here your thoughts after 7 years wow
