BOOK REVIEW: The Memory Thief by Lauren Mansy
Genre: Epic fantasy
Audience: Young adult
Positives:
The emotion felt realistic, appropriate, and compelling. They were intense without being overdramatic. The emotions could be felt and kept me reading.
The characters were realistic and likable. They had flaws and developed.
Neutral points:
Memories play a crucial role in the book, and so the story often switches from the present to the past. Those switches interrupted the action and made the story seem disjointed even though those memories did appear at relevant times.
The magic system was cool amd unique, but I wish it had been explained more.
The book included plenty of twists and surprises, but they felt too convenient. They felt as if an author created them rather than what might naturally happen.
Some problems had a big build-up but then were resolved so easily that or were not a problem and so they felt disappointing.
Overall: I never really got into the book. I enjoyed it when I did read it, but I wasn't eager to read when I wasn't reading. It was a good book, but it just didn't click with me. If you like fantasy with themes of family and memories, try this book.
