The Sword of Kaigen is truly brilliant. It is so emotional and painful but handles it all masterfully and with such maturity that you feel fullfilled at the end. Everything it talks about, it handles so gracefully that I matured along the way reading it. It's about growing, maturing, healing, and moving forward, and many more themes. Truly love that book.

Oh my! Shadow of the gods was already on my tbr, but now you’ve answered my question for an older person / parent protagonist, it is going all the way to the top🥰

I’d also recommend The Art of Prophecy by Wesley Chu. One of the main POV characters is a badass older woman who goes on a quest. The book has great non-romantic relationships along with great plot lines and world building.

Would love your recommendations for fantasy books like the way of kings, and other epic type fantasy books but very easy to read for beginners to reading fantasy and beginner readers all together. Looking for my best friend who reads but never read fantasy, and my husband who doesn’t read but would like to start and likes shows like the Witcher. I need Christmas gift ideas for those readers. I’m lost for ideas

For the subverted chosen one trope (as well as a great older female character going on a quest) I highly recommend The Art of Prophecy by Wesley Chu. I picked it up on a bit of a whim and I couldn’t put it down (definitely one of my favorite books of the year).

I also feel like Godkiller by Hannah Kaner is great for the Pokemon feel with Skeddy being just the cutest little guy. I'm definitely picturing the Lumens from FaeFarm whenever he's described!

@destineeturner573012 The Farseer Trilogy, The Liveship Traders, The Tawny Man trilogy, The Rain Wild chronicles Fitz and the fool trilogy. Liveship may feel like a digression from the main plot as its different characters, same with Rain Wild. However Hobb ties all the threads and characters together beautifully in the last 3.

the most Divine Rivals book that there is is Lovely War. There's Gods, there's WWI, there's longing, there's letters, it's not fantasy and it's not rivals to lovers, but tone and theme it's the same.
