*Spoilers* The part at the end where Adam goes to confront his father literally broke me. Adam is my favorite fictional character probably ever and at that moment I was just so proud of him, words can't express how much I love him. Lol i actually love piper as a villain, i just find her POV so hilarious and fun because of her ridiculous personality. Also i just wish we'd gotten one small scene of the gang saying goodbye to noah because he was an important part of the group and i just feel like he kind of just faded away, which is sad. That would have been a really bittersweet but fitting ending, I feel like but w/e can't win em all. But pynch tho. PYNCH.

Spoilers ahead: Okay, so I reread that scene with Noah saying goodbye to Gansey while he was dying, and it was suggested that Noah was the one who spouted that, "You will live because of Glendower" BS when Gansey was first dying back when he was a kid. So, I'm at a crossroads at whether to mentally flip Noah off or give him a hug, because while that caused a lot of heartbreak and hurt for the main characters, said characters probably wouldn't have met if it weren't for the search for Glendower. Also, I feel conflicted about the whole Henry/Blue/Gansey trio, because it just didn't feel the same. Don't get me wrong, I like Henry, but he was just too quickly introduced as a part of the group, and I felt like we needed more time with him as part of the group instead of, say, the last 70 pages or so.
@holleay9648 жыл бұрын
Definitely! All of that Noah nonsense was awesome, but it made me mad but also really happy with Noah. I fullheartedly agree with you about Henry, although I like him, I didn't really have time to get to know him. I'm excited about them going out and spending the summer together, because that means that Ronan x Adam can be together, too. ^.^ And because Maggie Stiefvater is making a new series off of this that is focused on Ronan, I hope it will be taking place over this summer, so that we really get to have time with Ronan, Opal, Adam and the new Cabeswater maybe?? I'm so excited for it!

*spoilers in this comment; you've been warned:* ok so i'm typing this as you speak so excuse the sort of all over the place response. noah was definitely lacking in this book, but part of me sees it sort of as a symbol of them growing up and away from Henrietta. and conversely, Henry's presence felt to me like new opportunity, new friendship, etc. that comes with growing up. though i do think Henry should've been introduced as more than just a casual acquaintance in earlier books (cuz he does make appearances in BLLB so he's not totally a new character like Laumonier (sp?) and Seondeok (also sp? oops)). omg declan & ronan scene on the roof of the Barns was amazing. actual brOTP. my favorite chapter was the one between Blue & the 300 Fox Way women when they're asking Blue what she wants to do with her life. it's just so sweet & why i love this series so much, because it has so much heart in it. also even though it did leave some loose ends, other things resolved enough to leave me happy. like maggie also says, she wants the reader to be wanting--not out of lack but out of curiosity and love for the characters--which was definitely my situation. there may have been a few inconsistencies or holes but again this series is way more about the journey and the characters than it is about the destination. also yes, i loved the fact that Cabeswater sacrificed itself to save Gansey. it was so fitting! and i was completely shocked when we find out Ronan dreamed Cabeswater. it takes a lot to surprise me now but that one definitely did. it was also something minorly hinted at in the first book of the series (with the handwriting on the rocks in the forest)!! amazing. great review!! sorry for the majorly long comment.

+WellDoneBooks MAJORLY LONG COMMENTS ARE MY FAV, MAX. I love the point you made about Noah being the past and Henry representing growth and maturing. that's such a great interpretation!! but also on that note, being the overly nostalgic and sentimental person that I am, I would probably still hope that the boys would be able to combine their pasts and futures in a way that allows them freedom but also the opportunity to maintain old friendships if that makes sense?

Can I just say that I was on a train when Ronan and Adam first kissed to I had to hold in my emotions. Then the kiss at the Barns happened when I was in a lecture theatre before class, again having to only react internally so I won't get stared at. Anyways, I loved the book. I thought the epilogue was great because it gave Adam closure instead of leaving the family situation without answers.

I kinda feel like Maggie was more focused on Ronan and Adam's development, because this are the characters that I feel evolve the most, I mean, I loved the side of Gansey we got to see in this book, but If we compare the Ronan and the Adam from book one, with the Ronan and the Adam from TRK, they are way more mature now, stronger and powerful, more at pace, more willing, and I'm so happy for this. Their interactions were everything, and the closure with Adams father, and the moments with the Lynch brothers, everything was just so sweet (or maybe I'm just biased because Adam is my favorite

Spoilers ahead: I didn't trust Henry when he first showed up. It just felt like whenever we got to see more of a new character they always ended up as the bad guy, so when Henry was suddenly introduced I was very wary of him. Of course I ended up liking him, but I don't necessarily agree with how he became a part of the group out of nowhere. I did like that Maggie had him stand a bit away from the group in certain situations because he knew that this meant more to them than to him etc. I'm also very conflicted about this Blue/Gansey/Henry thing, because I can definitely see how it would benefit them, but to me personally it felt wrong because we didn't really know him. Then again, we sort of knew that the original group wouldn't be together all the time after finishing high school, so at least they all seem to be doing what they want to be doing. I wish we could've gotten to see a bit more of their thoughts toward the end. I feel like we never got to see Blue fully process that she was partly a tree thing (I don't remember what they're called whoops). I also selfishly wish that the very last scene of the book would've been a scene where all of them were together, instead of apart. I obviously don't want to get rid of the actual scenes, just add one more where they're together. I also don't really know what happened to Noah? LIke, did he pass on? Or? I was so confused. My theory before reading the book was that Noah would be the one to save Gansey in the end and then pass on while Gansey got to live again. I think that would've been very cool hah! I'm aware that I'm mostly listing things I wasn't super happy with, but trust me, I'm VERY satisfied with how it all ended. I like that we got a bit of an open ending, because anything can happen from now on. I like having the freedom of coming up with my own versions of how their futures will look. All in all, Maggie wrapped up this series beautifully, and while I've got questions I'm mostly just very happy with how things turned out. Great review and sorry for writing a whole novel in the comments section xx
@holleay9648 жыл бұрын
Well said! I was definitely a little wary of Henry, too. Although I do like him, we didn't really get to know him, and now suddenly he's part of a new sort of group with Blue and Gansey? I feel like Maggie really should have given us more of Henry, more time to get to know him and probably really like him. That's the only complaint I have about the series, except, we didn't get to have Ronan and Adam have a scene were they actually talked about how they feel or what is going to happen with them. We had the ending, and we can only assume from it that they are dating, but we really don't know. Maggie is making a new series about and from Ronan's POV, which I am so excited for!
@natassa92978 жыл бұрын
I'm VERY excited for the Ronan series, and hopefully it will answer a few questions that the last book left me with. It's been a few months now since I finished the series, and I can safely say that Henry, in the way he's been portrayed and praised in the fandom at least, has really grown on me. I'm sure a reread would be very interesting since I now know that he isn't a bad guy. Even though it seems a bit unlikely (and I really DO want it to focus on Ronan since he's my favorite), I hope the new series will give us a little glimpse of Henry. I feel like it will be very different now that we (sort of) know him. Oh and Pynch. Please give me Pynch in the new series, I'm begging you Stiefvater.

ALSO BEAUTIFUL COVER ALERT *cries from TRK cover. Honestly the first book was beyond my expectations. I don't hate the ending and I really love the epilogue but there was something a little unsatisfying about it. Why would he die? Why would the entire series lead up to his fate? I imagined that after they found Glendower dead that somehow they would kill the demon (wether it be because of Gansey's death or not) which would wake Glendower and then they could ask him for Gansey's life.

Absolutely loved this series. Thanks so much for the recommendation. The Raven King definitely did not disappoint. I agree there was too much Henry Chang. The ease of which he just became apart of this tight knit group of friends felt a bit weird to me. I honestly kept waiting for him to betray Gansey the whole time. I loved Pynch, so worth the wait. I held my breath so many times while reading this book thinking it was going to finally be when Gansey died. I thought he would die by Blue's kiss but part of me was wondering if Maggie Stiefvater would surprise us by killing him a different way. I swear I held my breath throughout the entire scene with Gansey and Henry in that hole. So many great moments in this book. Now I'm hoping for a spinoff where Mr. Gray takes on the devious buyers of magical items.

this was such a great review!! (i too am having ronan withdrawals right now and possibly for the rest of my life tbh) on one hand i agree that i would have liked to have seen more of noah because i love him lots and the raven boys clearly did too but on the other hand i feel like it was a conscious decision to have less of him in this book. even in the first book (which is when he is the most tangible) he can't be seen by lots of characters and the way blue describes the moments when he arrives around her make it seem like he is hard to grasp and maybe we are meant to see and understand less and less of him over the course of the series/as he decays. i have no idea if that made any sense haha. tbh the thing i most disliked about this book was how maggie stopped talking about /looks/. in the first three books every look /spoke/ which made moments more weighted and funny (eg in BLLB when they go to calla to get a reading for ronan and calla says "is he the pretty one" and then it says something like - Blue and Gansey exchanged a look. Blues look said "I am so so sorry". Ganseys look said "am I the pretty one?") that quirky way of writing was so perfect to me and i was really sad that it wasnt in the raven king at all (yeah i know thats a very minor thing to dislike haha i still completely loved the book) also i would have liked to see henry earlier on as i dont even know how he fits into the group when adam and ronan are there and that makes me uncomfortable. Sorry this is such a long comment i clearly have a lot of feelings

R.I.P Noah......And i don't mean that as R.I.P for his passing, but for his presence at all in this book. R.I.P Noah's ending, where BLOOP he's gone and there's no narration to help us bask in the fact that he passed. And yeah, Luminier was not even needed :( but other than those things and some other things i addressed on my channel as well, the book was amazing. Pynch was so enjoyable and I'm so glad that we got closure (at least in a way).

Ok someone enlighten me. I finished this book just now. And I can't comprehend what happened to the demon once Piper was shot ? Did I miss something ?
@holleay9648 жыл бұрын
Haha, Gansey was a sacrifice. He sacrificed himself to kill the demon, I don't completely get how that worked, but basically, a life costs a life. To end a life, you have to sacrifice one? But to save a life, you also have to sacrifice one. Little confusing. But Gansey died so that the demon would die, I think he used his powers of "comanding"(?) to help it to work. Then Cabeswater sacrificed its physical form, the one that Ronan dreamt, to sort of make a human, then that's what was sacrificed to bring Gansey back. But the demon is definitely dead, so is Piper.

I've been wondering if anyone felt the way I did. great series but a poor conclusion after 12 plus months of waiting. I like it but something was missing for me. from Adam and Ronan kiss / relationship. To Henry's co-starring role. to not really getting an understanding of who Artemis is and what he meant to glendower. I don't know I was just very disappointed. I will say that the first 30 chapters I did not think that she would end the series. I thought that it would be a book 5 but then she realized that she was 40 chapters in and had to end it and she just rushed it.

It really bothered me that Glendower was dead all along. There were so many hints of Gansey being Glendower and also what I believed where hints that the gang would travel to the past (like the old wheel of the camaro being in the lake) that I feel were ignored by Maggie, because she didn’t know how to develop them. To me, it feels like bad storytelling to build up something so meaningful from the beginning and then say it wasn’t really that important. This is quite literally the only aspect of The Raven Cycle that bothered me, I love everything else.

I feel the same about Noah! He has been one of my favorite characters since book one, and we almost didn't see him in this book. I would have liked to see more of him, but I'm still very satisfied with how he ended up. I never would've thought that this... thing? with Gansey would be like that! Spoilers Ahead‼️ • I think I really loved how Henry easily blended with the other Raven boys. Especially how Gansey felt about him like he found someone just like him, who’s willing to invest his secrets to build the relationship, trusting instantly. • Things I learnt from Gansey: To be authoritative while being kind To be afraid and Happy at the same time To have a storm raging inside with a smile on the face. HONOURABLE MENTIONS : •Lynch brothers scenes made my heart swell. When Declan narrated him his father’s story about Ronan, the roof scene at Barns. And pls don’t get me started on Pynch. I LIVE FOR THAT SH*T •Adams confrontation with his parents and the way he said ‘ I appreciate your honesty’ my heart leapt with joy and sorrow at the same time. I literally had to take a moment to clear my vision because of tears • When Adam(demon) was trying to kill Ronan, Ronan held him and just said ‘ it’s okay , we know it’s not you’ my heart squeezed •Persephone advices Adam for the last time and helped him reclaim his body again. And omg when she said miss you. 😭 • The chapter after Ganseys death was so difficult to digest, like was he actually dead ? They were literally moving his body to sideways. Ronan crying. Blue and Adam just staring. Henry asking them all to be his magicians. Hdjsjsja it was all too much to fathom And so many more moments that I can’t summarise here 😭 P.S I LOVED YOUR REVIEW I FELT LIKE YOU WERE READING MY MIND NOT EVEN KIDDING

okay i'm so confused about the noah think like what happened at the end i get that that was him like finally passing on to being like Actually Dead but like which gansey was he whispering to, young dying gansey or current dying gansey? and why did he say "you will live because of glendower" when glendower never had anything to do with it? i also wish there had been a seen where they said goodbye to noah or at least mentioned him in the epilogue.... i don't think they forgot about him but i just wish we'd gotten that reassurance
@jane95618 жыл бұрын
i think it's because of how they explained that time was a circle and not a line and that present/past/future are happening at the same time. So when gansey was dying, somewhere young gansey is dying as well, doesnt matter if it happened in the past cause like they said time is a circle. So when Noah said that thing about gansey not dying because of glendower, he knows that this would result to gansey starting his quest of finding the welsh king, and it's what would lead gansey adam Ronan Noah and blue to one another. (sorry idk how to explain it properly lol)

5 friends search for a dead welsh King who will grant them a favor when they wake him up, the main girl is the daughter of a psychic but she is not actually a psychic.... makes sense when you read it

i loved it but pynch didn't deserve what they got. their relationship wasn't even defined except when adams dad makes a homophobic comment??? idk i have a lot of feelings about this
@bookishsophia8 жыл бұрын
+It's Meg!! I'm glad you have a lot of feelings lol. they make for good discussion. I'm not upset about the fact that pynch wasn't defined. perhaps Maggie is saying that not every relationship needs to be defined or labeled?
@megangeiger13948 жыл бұрын
+thebookbasement it wasn't just that that made me mad about pynch, and maybe maggie did have a reason but it's definitely a thing that authors tend to with lgbt couples. Adam didn't even tell ronan that he liked him? like that would be so important to him to get some sort of reassurance yknow? a lot of people are happy about it because lgbt never gets good relationships but I'd like it better if they were handled as well as bluesy was if you get what im saying
