“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.” This C.S. Lewis quote comes to mind whenever I reread a children's classic - they truly are able to be treasured and enjoyed for life!

I grew up with L.M. Montgomery's books from the library. I don't know how many times I read AoGG. I only purchased my own copies when I was an adult in my twenties. I learned English by reading them with a dictionary. AoGG I purchased new from a bookstore, but the rest are very old editions in green canvas fabric, most of them probably originally had dust covers. I love all stories by L.M.M. You have very similar taste in books to me, but I still have so many classics that I haven't read, but I'm excited to read them with my kids. There are so many beautiful editions now that it's hard to choose. We are about to start Winnie de Pooh's stories. I would suggest you read/get the Secret Garden as well. I loved that book too, as well as the movie. I really liked the name Colin, so it was quite funny that when I moved to Scotland from Poland, the first Scottish male I befriended was called Colin.

I love your collection so much! ❤ Children's classics are such a safe place for me. I just wanted to clarify something, the orden of Emily of New Moon series is Emily of New Moon, Emily Climbs and finally, Emily's Quest. I think you switched the second book for the third book there hehe. I love Anne of Green Gables so much. I read Anne of Windy Poplars when I was like 14 y/o , (My aunt gave it to my mom when they were young and I grabbed it when I started getting interested in books) I had no idea what it was about lol but I read it like 3 times because I was in love with the writing and Anne's character. After years I forgot about it until I found out about the tv show. After that I read the whole series and they've become one of my favorite series of all time. I'm planning to read all L. M. Montgomery's books. And my dream is to have that book set but in spanish (my native language) 😭 I think it'll be hard to get tho. I just love the covers so much, I need to have them with those covers. Anyway, this comment is already too long haha. Btw I'm currently reading Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace, same as Anne's series these books follow the main characters until they become adults. This first book is set in roughly 1898-1899. I think you should give it a try.

I definitely want to read the Anne of Greengables series this year, I watched the Netflix series and absolutely loved it! It reminds me of my favorite classic as a child "Der Trotzkopf". Like Anne of Greengables it is about a young girl who tries to find her place in the world. The series follows her through her entire life until being a grandmother. Ilse (the protagonist) is witty, funny, and sweet, I think you would very much enjoy it. "Der Trotzkopf" is a German children's classic by Emmy von Rhoden and was first published in 1885. Since I read it in german, I can not recommend a particular English translation, according to Wikipedia there are two available: Emmy von Rhoden: Taming a Tomboy. Translated by Felix Leopold Oswald. New York: W. L. Allison, 1898. Emma von Rhoden: An Obstinate Maid. Translated by Mary E. Ireland. Philadelphia: G. W. Jacobs, 1898.

But what books did you actually read as a child? I can't believe you didn't read at least some of these or myriad others as a child. I read most of these before I was 12 years old--well, only Anne of Green Gables of that collection--but Winnie the Pooh, Mary Poppins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Narnia Series, and so many more that were not mentioned like Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates, the Hobbit, The Sword of Shannara, and on and on. Did you come to reading later in life?
