The sunset at the lake!!! SO beautiful. I love looking at books at thrift stores. Sometimes there are some real gems! You found some good ones.

I know, I love it there! Me too, I don't really care if I buy anything or not, it's just fun to browse, like a treasure hunt. More fun if you find gold obviously but... still fun! 😄

Hi! Welcome to the club on the other side of the world! 😃 It’s a beautiful spot. In the video before this one I took a walk around the area, if you want to see more. It’s a nature preserve, and so pretty this time of year!

That lake is just magnificent! Such a beautiful setting! I love Great Expectations. It’s not my favorite Dickens novel, but it’s close. Great thrift haul!👍🏼😊

I've read all three of the Hunger Games books. I love those! I've also read a few Kristen Hannah books and I love her, as well. Stacey Abrams is very active politically in her state of Georgia - I have seen her on TV, but I haven't read her books. That one looked good to me as well as "Escape" - yes, I would have picked those up for just a dollar! Great deals! Good video - made me laugh!

That makes me feel even better about this haul, thank you! I know you read The Women recently, so you definitely had some influence there, as one of the people talking about her books. I'll keep you posted on the Stacey Abrams one! And that makes me so happy to hear that you laughed, thank you 😊 That made my whole day!

“Why am I so weird?” I ask myself that every day 😂 Love a good thrifted book haul! Absolutely love The Hunger Games series and Kristin Hannah!! I haven’t read The Four Winds yet so I look forward to hearing what you think when you get to it. I’m reading The Women right now and it’s really good 😊

Haha me too 😂 Watching yourself on video is so very humbling sometimes haha! I have a feeling I would have loved Hunger Games when it came out, but I kind of missed it and then it was a whole big thing and I got into anti-mode 😅 Too popular, not interesting! But I’m trying to have an open mind, because I think it will be a lot of fun. Yes I’ve seen you mention her in your videos so I though I would give it a go. Can’t resist the gold anyway so!

I read the Carolyn Jessup book a while ago and enjoyed it. There are a lot of ex-FLDS memoirs out there. I think Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall is my favorite of the ones I've read.

Oh wow, how lucky to have several places selling used books near you!😍I'm trying to convince my bookshop owner friend to start a used books section, but she doesn't sound that into it 😂Anyway, lots of good finds! The Hilary Mantel one looks so much like non fiction to me, it really surprised me when you said it was a short story collection. Also, books with gold on the cover are one of my weaknesses - I feel ya XD
@ellenmadebookclub3 ай бұрын
Yes I guess so! Don't they sell books in charity shops in your area? I need to give the books in Swedish some more love though, I just never have enough time to look through everything so I just go straight to the foreign sections, which as you saw are very small XD Yes I have no idea what I got myself into there, but it sounded weird and interesting haha! I hope I like short stories! Gold is the best. It's so shiny ^^

$15 for 11 is such a steal! I wanna do this soon -- been wanting to expand my library. I'm super surprised you haven't read The Hunger Games! It's definitely soo good and a little dark for a YA book.

I know right? It’s less than what one new book costs sometimes. Love a good deal! Absolutely recommend 😊 Haha yes, I think I would have liked it a lot if I read it when it came out, but I missed the train a bit and then it was “too popular” and my anti-mode kicked in 😂 But now I’m passed that haha! Looking forward to reading that! What are you reading at the moment?

@@itsmimiduong Yey! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😄 I loved the flow of it too, and so thought-provoking. I've been thinking a lot about it since finishing and I have a video in the works about it too, but I feel like regardless of how factual or reliable it is, it's so well told! And it made me think. I'm so happy you liked it! I've heard good things about Divine Rivals, I hope you like that one too! 😊

@@ellenmadebookclub Yess! Exactly. It was such a thought provoking book. It's something that happens in society and the negative depiction in the media but most of us don't realize it. I feel like on the first read, I was moved by her stories and didn't get a full underlining message (which is why I want to reread it!). Can't wait to see your video 🥰 I'm already enjoying it so far! Though right now I am trying to finish all my library books so I might be doing some speed reading... haha 😅

@@itsmimiduong Yes, that's a great idea. I think it was extra convincing as she narrated it herself as well, so it would be interesting to see how it reads as a physical book. I probably won't, but I would really like to hear your thoughts on it if you do! Haha yeah, you better get on that!⚡😅

What would you recommend as a first book to try that is originally in Swedish but translated to English? Any favourites?
@ellenmadebookclub3 ай бұрын
That’s a very good question that I have been thinking about as well! Most of the ones I can think of have written either classics, children’s books, or crime, many of which I haven’t read. I know there are many more, but I have mostly gravitated towards books in English, and never paid much attention to where an author was from until recently (booktube). And I would also have to check which ones are translated! I know Fredrik Backman is popular internationally, A man called Ove is great, I don’t think I’ve read any of his other books yet. There’s also Liza Marklund, Camilla Läckberg, Henning Mankell, Jan Guillou, mostly crime but also historical and other things. My most recent read is Stolen by Ann-Helén Laestadius, which I would highly recommend. I would love to do some more research and make a video on this, because I would really like to know myself 😄

@ellenmadebookclub I might try some of Swedish crime! I would like to try A Man Called Ove. I DNFd Beartown because I just couldn't get into but would like to try Backman again.
@ellenmadebookclub3 ай бұрын
@@RaspberryReads I would love to hear your thoughts on that! 😊 I watched Beartown on Netflix but I think I must have missed something or forgotten, because I have heard that the book has some difficult topics and I don’t remember it like that, but I might just be numb to it after too much true crime or something! I would like to read some more of his books as well.
