Two views and six likes. Nice. Also, here’s my progress on the books: 1. Demian: got halfway through, my atheist mind rejected the constant Christian ideology and never finished it 2. Murakami Haruki: never heard of it 3. Owl Service: never heard of it 4. Bacchae: never heard of the book, but I do know the mythological story 5. Gulliver’s Travels: I haven’t read it, but my friend is obsessed with it and loves its connotations 6. The Little Prince: I know the story, but I don’t remember having touched it since I was five 7. The Adventures of Pinocchio: I’m familiar with a few versions of the story 8. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: I know of it. Still haven’t read it, to the irritation of a couple of my friends. 9. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea: I know of it, but I read Around the World in 80 Days for Lit/Comp and hated it, so I’m disinclined to read more Jules Verne books. 10. Into the Magic Shop: never heard of it Bonus. The Ones Who Walk Away: never heard of it That was long lol anyway tnx for the recommendations!

i really agree with "my atheist mind rejected the constant Christian ideology and never finished it". I mean, for me it is so hard to understand the book if i have different ideology
@eupetrosarktou78664 жыл бұрын
I really don't think that the Gnostic idea of Abraxas, which is central to "Demian", can be swept off the table as "Christian ideology". At least not as Christianity is perceived today. The whole concept of a god who is both good and evil at the same time is anathema to most modern Christians. Some Christians would even denounce it as Satanism, or something even more abhorrent. . Having said that, there is, of course, a vein of Christian ideology running through the book, but it would be nearly impossible to write about the existential struggle of a young man in Northern Europe in the first decades of the 20th Century without dealing with this in depth. . Having said that, I want to make it clear that I am not a Christian, but I don't have a problem reading novels taking place in predominantly Christian societies. Particularly when the protagonist of the novel is struggling against the tides of conformity in that society. . ###
@sakinomura40394 жыл бұрын
I can pretty much understand that you are unable to understand Demian ... Namjoon is an atheist too though ...the real key to the book is not the Christianity .... I am currently reading it and the book has much more to it than just that...it explores the inner depth of mind and your whole existence.... It makes your brain work in such beautiful and tempting way that you can't help feeling goosebumps and shivers... I think you should try giving it one more shot it's so much worth reading... I first read The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) in the 80's while I was in high school on the recommendation of my French teacher. I read it again recently and loved it just as much (if not more now that I was able to make a BTS connection). For those of u wanting to read it, I'd suggest reading up on the author beforehand and his inspiration for the story. (some versions of the book actually have several chapters devoted to his background story). For me personally, it gave the book much deeper meaning. Many tend to simply write this off as a silly little children's book but it is brilliant. Thank you Bookish Theories for this video ... I'm an avid reader (always have been) and have read most of the books you listed here. Stay safe/healthy!

Wonderful list : and a great idea. More please! I know of several of these, obviously and have of course read a few. I particularly thank you for those which are new to me - Murakami Haruki - I have liked every Japanese ish book I've read; Owl Service (have always loved Alan Garner so this is a potential winner for me); Into the Magic Shop sounds right up my street; The ones who walked away ... I really really want to like Ursula Le Guin for so many reasons, but have never managed to finish any of her books that I've tried - I'm sad about that because she seems such a tremendously Good Egg! and I think I'd love to have known her in real life (though in my experience it's hard to know any writer if you don't like their work!)

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy started life many, many years ago as a comedy radio series on BBC Radio 4, it was totally brilliant and original. It was subsequently turned into a BBC TV series and eventually, much, much later became a film. It’s so sad that Douglas Adams died young and we never really got very much more of his comedic insights.

But the forest that's always brought up in Jimin's music videos--the painting, Fake Love and Black Swan lyrics, etc. Ugh. In Fake Love, when they're like "I forgot the route." ;__; If felt so sad for Kafka. And just the crows and butterflies random splashed throughout the videos. So good.
