I do my TBR pile as a rough guideline to as what I want to read throughout the year, but then I separate it into the seasons so that I can have small things to look forward to (for example, Harry Potter is a series I want to re-read in summer 2016, but I can only read that if I finish my winter and spring TBR's first). I don't do it monthly because I somehow lose track of what I've read throughout the year already.
