Spooky Halloween-Themed Book Recommendations!

I just got back from Salem and it was the most magical experience and the best trip I've ever gone on. Even besides the witchy stuff, Salem just oozes fall and Halloween vibes. I definitely read Season With the Witch before going and I'm glad I did. I was overwhelmed with how much cool stuff there was to do, and the book helped me plan. If you do decide to go in October, I recommend going for one weekend day, and the rest during the week. The crowds were so much more manageable. Also, make reservations for dinners, and buy tickets for attractions ahead of time. Like I said it was the best experience I've had, but I planned quite a bit and I'm glad I did!

The fourth Trixie Belden book, The Mysterious Stranger, includes a Halloween party. The book came out around 1950/1952, so it's a fun look at that era. Another Whitman girls' book from the 1950s, Kay Tracy: New Girl, has a similar Halloween party with homemade costumes :)

I think when booktubers recommend books, they recommend on what they feel like is 'spooky' or just have like monsters or those demons/vampires/etc that we usually associate with October in general. For me I usually recommend The Haunting of Aveline Jones bc it's a ghost story and I always link ghost stories to the spooky month of October. Another one is The Ghouls of Howlfair. But I was looking at your book on Amazon yesterday and I actually can't wait to buy it. The cover just screamed spooky season to me lol

The Halloweeners sounds cool. I've heard that the Hocus Pocus book is pretty good. If I ever get a chance to go to Salem, which I really want to visit there someday, I'll have to check out A Season with the Witch. Hope you had a great Halloween!

Thank-you. I just ordered Devil's Night after watching your video. I live really close to Detroit and grew up terrified on Devil's Night. I was always surprised when people from out of town had no idea what Devil's Night was. It was a big part of Halloween in this area.

I’m so glad you suggested Monster Street. I loved those two books. Yes, surprisingly dark for middle grade. If you do go to Salem. I make it a point to go at least twice a year. ( I’m only two hours away) You definitely need to go to Count Orlok’s Nightmare Gallery. Especially after 4 pm During Haunted Happenings. It’s turns into a Haunted House. Good stuff!

I'm surprised that I never hear this mentioned, but by far my favorite Halloween season book is "The Night Country" by Stewart O'nan. Technically it is a high school level YA novel, but the book just drips Autumn/Halloween atmosphere with the way O'nan writes. The book is told from the perspective of the ghosts of 3 high school kids who died in a car wreck the previous year during Halloween, coming back on Halloween to interact with the characters left behind and how the event changed their lives. In terms of macabre Halloween reading, I've still never found a book yet that embraces the atmosphere of Halloween and the theme of death and melancholy as well as this book.

I actually was not a fan of Hocus Pocus 🙈 I even got rid of my copy because the only thing I liked was the short novelization of the movie. Always love a good chunky Halloween book! There are two anthologies from....2010 I think...that I've heard decent stuff about but they're freaking expensive and at most you can only find one of the two on Ebay. They're edited by Paula Guran and Adam Cesare did a review on one of the books a few years ago when he recommended a few Halloween books on his channel.

Hey Cameron, have a question. How do you get your LED flood lights to flash all the way up the selves? Sometimes they seem to reach only to a certain extent up the shelves, but many of your videos, you have the Led flood lights flashing up the shelves making all levels light. Some of your videos the green is only flashing on certain levels, but other videos looks like the green, red, and blue is flashing all the way up the shelves. Can you give me some advice on how to do that?
