I really enjoyed watching this and other recent videos with Scott Christopher. I love how they were on site at the old Smith family cabin, touring both the downstairs and the upstairs, and I love listening to Daniel Peterson talk about the events there that occurred 200 years ago. Since I'll probably never visit there in person, it's very nice to see it in this manner :)

Not only can God make the other siblings stay asleep, we know from multiple testimonies that the grown men in the room (when Joseph and Sidney received the vision of the degrees of Glory) knew something was happening, but didn’t see a thing (of the vision…just the effects of Joseph and Sidney). God can definitely bring someone in or out of the veil.

I taught about the BoM today in Elder's Quorum. So to prepare, I listened to 3 different podcasts/interviews by Dr./Bro Peterson this week discussing BoM evidences! Dude is a font of knowledge; absolutely amazing! I learned so much from him to strengthen my testimony of the restoration, and I hope I was able to pass some of his great wisdom on to my class!

I read somewhere that someone said that the gold plates had a green hue. That would indicate corrosion from copper alloyed with the gold.
@dinocollins7206 ай бұрын
I recently saw a video saying the same thing.
@Bookofmormoncentralofficial6 ай бұрын
There's some speculation, based on descriptions, that the plates were made from a mixture of metals, possibly including copper, which could contribute to a slight greenish hue. Tumbaga is a term used to refer to a metal alloy that was common in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. This alloy is typically a mix of gold and copper and sometimes includes other metals like silver. The proportion of gold and copper can vary, giving the alloy different appearances, including the potential for a reddish or greenish hue due to oxidation. Tumbaga was used by ancient American civilizations for a variety of purposes, including creating religious artifacts and decorative items. Given its use in Mesoamerica, some Latter-day Saint scholars have considered tumbaga as a plausible material for the gold plates, because this and similar alloys could explain the descriptions of the plates' appearance and their relative weight.

I was fortunate last year to accompany our Stake's youth conference on a visit to the Palmyra area (with a stop in Harmony, PA on the way). I was a wonderful opportunity for our youth to have spiritual experiences at the same places where the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ occurred. It was a wonferdul visit.

Just in terms of the metal the plates would have been worth around $1 Million(= or - $250K) in todays money. That's enough to tempt a RICH person.

It is not given to them to know the mysteries of God and His kingdom (Matthew 13:11): Only those who have a close and continuous relationship with the Father and the Son will know the mysteries (Mark 4:11-12). For whosoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he has. Most do not have the knowledge of God’s truth. They insist that Jesus is God, God has a mother, and that Jesus was never created even though Jesus himself says otherwise (Revelation 3:14). The Father will never reveal His mind to strangers that _do not know Him;_ only to those who are close to Him. Only those who come out of the world and become separate, and wait upon Him unceasingly will know the truth of the gospel.

God is not limited by a Bible. Truly Jesus can do marvelous work by coming forth of the Book of Mormon, that testify of Him as the God of Israel.

The gold plates if they were pure would be worth about $600,000. At best. The church paid $32 million for a few pieces of paper with some scribble on it. I would say what was written on the plates was more valuable than the metal itself by far
