It just tickled me the wrong way when people made those comments because it seems like everyone only wants the disability/pain rep if it’s “positive” but the more meaningful one to me is the realistic (to me) shite end of it but when it’s there then all of a sudden it’s bad and means life is not worth living? Haha I just. Ugh.
@msellenandrea Жыл бұрын
@@BookRoast Yeah I 100% agree. We don't have to be inspirational all the fucking time. I would just like to exist thank you xD I also really appreciate realistic depictions, because those are the most healing!
@BethWade Жыл бұрын
@@msellenandrea We don't have to be inspiring EVER. It's super ableist to objectify disabled/chronically ill people in that way. We are human beings suffering randomly. It doesn't serve a purpose. It's not some test or greater good. It sucks and that's OK because that's how it is. Being 'fair' to disabled folks in fiction *should* mean showing us, being honest about how difficult it can be, and letting us be heroes, villains, love interests, best friends, etc. instead of consistently being typecast as any one thing. Just like rep for anyone else. (I know YOU know this, I say it for others who might not).
@WhatMaartjeRead Жыл бұрын
I absolutely relate to how you feel about chronic pain rep. I know for some people it’s probably good to see that people with chronic illnesses or disabilities fight through it and are successful despite their health, but to me personally that sometimes makes me feel like those of us who can’t push through, can’t realise all their dreams, etc, are not strong. I think it’s important to send the message that we’re all strong, even if all we do is get through the day.

exactly, or that we *should* push through which is shittier of a take than the reverse i feel hah

I just finished Fourth Wing too. It definitely was not the best in terms of the world building and things like that. But I’d seen reviews, and I knew that going in. I did love the dragons and their personalities. Also, I was very invested in the romance, I was mostly just there for the romance. But overall I really enjoyed it!

Thank you for creating the Orillium Readathon and all the work you put into it it is my favourite readathon I love how immersive. I always have great plans for it and even if I don’t quite execute them all I always have a good time. I managed to complete all my 3 callings though had to swap in some shorter reads and may need to reread a few as I was really rushing at the end and don’t think I took anything in. I didn’t get to summoning my Impling, I will be reading In the lives of puppets for that too and most likely be calling the Scholarly one. I hope to do some of the extra curriculum in the coming month too as didn’t get to any of them, it just means I get to spend more time in Orillium. I enjoyed Fourth Wing give it 3.5 ⭐️ and hope to continue the series. Loved the dragons. Thanks again G for all you do. Have been enjoying all your crochet material

Thank you for the Readathon! It’s REALLY magical ☺️! And for the power girl groups that fight monsters - how about an old classic - Sailor Moon (the Manga). Although you may already know that… but it’s everything you asked for. It is about Teenagers, but the world building and the „history“ in it is really cool and it’s definitely darker than the old anime (which I love, because of nostalgia and because it brought me to Mangas and drawing even more than when I was a kid, but anyway…). So you can read still enjoy it as a grown up. In my humble opinion 😅…

For One Piece you have to get to the Baratie arc that's when it gets amazing. And the Arlong Park arc is just more Amazing!! + The anime suffers from slow pacing and filler so you need to know which arc is filler and which arc is not (there are guides on the internet) but for me the manga is a better way to experience the story first and then watch the anime alongside it cuz the anime does add some really funny wholesome scenes.

If you've not read it yet, check out Juno Dawson's 'Her Majesty's Secret Coven' books - only two at current but it deals a lot with female friendship amongst a group of mostly adult witches in the UK. It's not all nice sweetness between them all but it definitely gave me 'The Craft but if they grew up' vibes.

As a long term One Piece fan, the manga is superior in almost every way to the anime; it's just the early arcs are very "villain of the week", once you reach Baratie you start to see the real scope of it. Anyway, the Live Action just came out and it's great, so there also that 😁😁😁
