Gorgeous board. So is this in addition to the April and August readathons or a replacement this year? Its my first year in Aeldia and im currently working through the Novice Path! Just wondering if the board game is meant to replace any of the stuff from previoys years?
@alanabigford10745 күн бұрын
I cannot BELIEVE I am only just NOW discovering this readathon. I must have literally been under a rock. Can I still do the novice path and past challenges?! Or should I just jump right in to this year?! I WANT TO DO ALL THE THINGS. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. 😭💕

If you want to give romantasy a proper chance and like inventive, unique magic systems and a little mysterious, slightly fast-paced narratives that pull you in, as well as cosy but also pulls-at-your-heartstrings vibes, I cannot recommend Freya Marske's The Last Binding-trilogy enough, starting with "A Marvellous Light"! The way you describe "The undertaking of Heart and Mercy" and "The Tainted Cup", "A Marvellous Light" sounds like a mix of the two!

I obviously have a need to create my character from scratch and can't just skip. I went thru step by step even though I am just joining now. I even went so far as to use AI to create my character after I figured out which one I was! haha Love it and can't wait to see how I progress before April 2025 and the new school year begins haha.

I've not read any of these, so added a few to my TBR! My top book of 2024 was probably Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead. I also loved quite a few golden age crime books, like Clouds of Witness by Dorothy Sayers and The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey.

The Tainted Cup was one of my favorite reads in 2024. I like how immersive Robert Jackson Bennett builds his worlds. And that is funny about the Lithuanian words.

Best fantasy: The Will of the Many (which you are probably seeing everywhere but deservedly so). Best literary fiction: Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors. Best romance (which I never give five stars but this shocked me so I suggest looking up the premise): Role Playing by Cathy Yardley

I felt very similar about cytonic. Didn’t like it at all but decided to read the skyward flight (three “short” stories) anyway to give it another chance and really enjoyed it and just today I finished Defiant and I loved it. It gave me the same feels as Skyward book 1.
@BookRoast8 күн бұрын
I am still tempted to read the 4th one as I know the author is famous for his strong endings but I just honestly cannot remember at all what happened in book 3, maybe I'll try and find a recap haha
@happy2bits7 күн бұрын
@ actually I didn’t either because I kinda blanked out on it by the time I read 4th one. It didn’t matter so much. It actually filled in all the gaps in story telling quite nicely without being confused.
@catnip26968 күн бұрын
I felt the same with Cytonic. Books 1 and 2 are some of my favourite sci-fi books and then Cytonic led to me to DNF the series
@happy2bits8 күн бұрын
I disliked Cytonic a lot but Defiant gave me the same emotions as Skyward! It’s really worth finishing it off
@BookRoast8 күн бұрын
it's such a shame!
@laiaal.33248 күн бұрын
Cytonic was a general disappointment, but to me the short stories of the side characters were amazing and Defiants was much better than Cytonic. I would say short stories were on par with book 1 and 2, Defiant not as good, but still solid. Cytonic was not good 😅
@happy2bits7 күн бұрын
@@laiaal.3324 I wasn’t keen on book two either but it was better than book 3. For me Spensa just could not carry the story on her own. So coming back to short stories and the whole team was so much more exciting than just her flying with the stars for 600 pages. She works best when she has other characters to bounce off from.
@laiaal.33246 күн бұрын
@@happy2bits Very much agree on your take on Spensa. I liked book 2 for the world building, not Spensa that much. And unfortunately, book 3 was exactly the same with waay weaker world building. The short stories had amazing new prespectives, characters working together and amazing world building. Evershore might be my fav story of the whole series!

Added quite a few of these to my TBR, but I dnf’d The Measure. I thought it would be sci-fi and was just bored and disappointed.

Was already intrigued by The Family Experiment but now I kinda want to read it for our early Aeldia adventures. Also yes to shows recommendations, always looking for something to watch !! The book that probably stuck with me the most in 2024 would be Song Of Achilles (probs because I'm still not over how sad it was at times). The audiobook was quite nice, I think I may be back into my mythology era. Quite enjoying the book I'm reading now too (76 pages in but the batter is quite fun thus far) so off to a good start. Hoping for lots of good reads this year
