I would love to go to Japan too, very jealous! I’m not very well read on Japanese literature, and I don’t know what you’ve read before, but the ones I have read are Before the coffee gets cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi (emotional but calm short stories) and Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, which is a 1900s family saga from the perspective of Korean immigrants in Japan, very well written and interesting. I’m sure you’ve heard about those already but in case you haven’t! 😊

I've heard great things about Pachinko (also heard its very sad), but still haven't read it! Adding both of these to my TBR :)

@ Yes, it’s not a light read by any means, and perhaps not a lot about Japan either, more like another perspective as a complement to the other ones you had :)

That first book looks hefty lol. I don't believe I have read any Japanese literature I own Before the Coffee Turns Cold and am interested in reading Butter. Japan is my ultimate dream trip! I hope you and your husband have the best time while you're out there. Maybe you can film visiting a Japanese book store and the many cafes since you're a coffee lover. Would love to see that. 😊

@turningpageswithdom I just ordered Butter! Really looking forward to reading that one as well. And that is such a great idea about filming some of the cafes and bookstores! I've never been great about documenting my trips, but I'm gonna try on this one :)

Ah I'll be visiting Japan the month after you!! One of my favorite reads this year was by a Japanese author, "Even if This Love Disappears Tonight" by Misaki Ichijo. I think it's technically middle grade/young adult contemporary but wow its soooo goooood!!!

'Before the coffee gets cold' series by Toshikazu Kawaguchi are wonderful books that are really centred around people and their emotions and interactions between them. I actually met him this week at a book signing and he's a wonderful, full of joy and wholesome person also!

Oh! That is amazing you met the author! I need to add this series to my list. I think I heard the third book in the series just came out this month? Definitely moving it up on my TBR. Thanks for the tip!
