The Great Awakening would make a great short film I feel like - I'd love to see those visuals! I'm glad to know it wasn't just me that didn't get on with the Gus Moreno book. I thought it was because I listened to it on audiobook and I usually find fiction on audio a bit difficult to follow and not as engaging, but it sounds like your experience with the paperback! Completely agree on the Pet Sematary but mid vibes. You've made me really excited to get to Our Share of Night - luckily I've got it on my Kindle so I'm a little less intimidated by its size because I can't see it :') I've read a few Kirsty Logan books but not that collection, I definitely want to get to it soon! And I have to say you're making me really want to read Brother, I hadn't heard of it before now and it sounds like it might be right up my alley :)

I recently read Our Share of Night and absolutely loved it. As a South American, the historical background of the military dictatorship gave a whole other layer of horror. The author just released a new anthology in Spanish and I hope to get to it soon; she's become one of my favorite writers 😊

The Great Awake is just the best story of Salt Slow, factually 😂 the first two and last stories are the strongest imo, but I adore that collection so much. I'm so excited for Private Rites to come out this year; I actually plan to buy it right away 😅

Honestly, WMTD has THE most beautiful cover I've ever seen, and I sold my copy after also being disappointed :') me and my buds are all trans, and jeeze did all of that representation feel like virtue signaling, and really distract from the book. I LOVED the horror aspects though, wow.

I have several books you mentioned already in my que of books I'd like to read, like Brother & What Moves the Dead. But I hadn't heard of Our Share of Night, which upon your review I immediately put on my "To Read" list.

It's probably never gonna happen but I want a prequel about the Order's evil shenanigans from its foundation up to Gaspar's birth. I love a good cult story and the Order is unhinged and so fascinating. Alas, slim chance. Also it's a crime that Mariana Enríquez's earlier novels have yet to be translated!!

I saw it last week, really enjoyed it. Not the biggest fan of some of the changes that were made from the book but I understand them and it worked well for the film

I always feel jealous of people who can read so much. I’m a very slow reader in general and it’s also very easy to fall into a slump where I don’t read at all.

I used to be a slow reader too so I understand. It took me years to properly get myself into a regular reading routine in order to read more. Now I try to read everyday, even if it's just for 20 minutes and it has made a difference to how many books I can read in a month. I usually read 4-5 shortish books a month at the moment because I'm currently out of work and have more down time to do so, but I honestly think most of the books you see people reading online is just not realistic for the average person.
