How did you enjoy this book? I’ve heard a lot of people recommend it , and so I read it a couple years ago and I just couldn’t stand it. I kept waiting for it to get better and it just ended up being disappointing. I felt like it was trying to bite off more than it could chew and didn’t end up accomplishing much. I really want to understand what people liked about it.
@ms-abominable
@ms-abominable 26 күн бұрын
@@seliabizzarro1188 I think it did a great job of telling this love story. Pages of "tell me you love me without telling me" with hints of tragedy woven throughout. I thought the horror aspects were subtle yet terrifying. I'm gonna have that image he painted of leaving that diner in the middle of nowhere in my head forever. The 2nd person POV was interesting and the themes of possession and fate were handled in a way I hadn't seen before. I appreciate the risks the author took, that it wasn't afraid of getting weird, even if it didn't always go how I wanted it to. I'll admit that the ending left something to be desired. More weird shit, please!

I do think you should broaden your reading list, because you seem you do like more different literary approach and have completely different interests than vlogger. I always recommend person should stick to books and subjects that he/she generally loves, it is what matters, however weird it may seem or difficult at the times. Or, you may find a great recommendation elsewhere for something new and probably interesting at the moment.

I watched the movie ‘I’m thinking of ending things’ and loved it so much. Then I read the book, which was beautiful in the way books are. But the movie did such a good job and getting the atmosphere and tone of the book perfectly right and in some ways out does the book in certain visual twists and subtleties that are too explicit and overt in the book

@@Crystal-nw3mv I guess it wasn’t for you, but I absolutely loved it. beautiful strange acting and atmosphere and sound design. The way they visualised stream of consciousness, inner monologues, dreams, was very entrancing. I think critics loved it but yea it’s not popular among general audiences.. too bad It’s also an adaptation, it’s not suppsed to be a replica. It’s an interpretation of the ending, it’s more fitting I think, I wouldn’t have liked a Fight Club type reveal at the end at all

I watched the I’m Thinking of Ending Things movie before reading the book. Whole time I was very confused and I didn’t know what was happening but I sort of enjoyed it? Fast forward a few years later and I find a used copy on my local bookstore so I decided to pick it up since a friend of mine told me the book was not as confusing. Now, at this time I had forgotten a lot of things about the movie but I was still debating whether to read it or not since I hate watching movies first and I did it just because I saw it on Netflix and I didn’t know it was an adaptation. The book was a million times better, even having a vague idea of what was going to happen I was still SO tense throughout it, and frankly scared at points. I mean, I agree with you, it’s not an easy book to translate into a movie and that made me appreciate the movie more since it’s sort of a stream of consciousness book so they did what they could, but how I wish I would’ve read the book first because I think I would’ve loved it a lot more

Oh man, I had no idea I’m Thinking of Ending Things was originally a book, I’m one of the unfortunates who saw the movie with no context and I was so angry at it for building up all this tension and revealing all these puzzle pieces that I could tell were connected, I just wasn’t sure HOW exactly, and I was really looking forward to that mystery coming to fruition, only for the movie to basically flip the table over at the last second, scattering the puzzle pieces, and acting like doing so was somehow clever. No actually, you just threw an entire perfectly good story into the trash and then expected applause, fuck that and fuck you. (directed at the filmmakers I mean) I’d honestly love to know what the FUCK they were even remotely trying to go for with that, and see that creepy mystery PROPERLY unraveled, so I’ll have to give it a read! (Side note: it also drove me INSANE that like half the movie took place in a car ride and NEITHER OF THEM HAD SEATBELTS ON THE ENTIRE GODDAMN TIME)

River Phoenix in one interview talks about how he hates being captured so much on camera, and how he started having superstitions after he learned about how Native Americans believe that cameras take away people's souls in small pieces with each photograph. Video seems a bit different even though it's technically thousands of stills, it's this still aspect of photographs that seem uncanny to me. Great channel 👍

Read The Need due to this video. Really enjoyed it, but I also could not tell you what happened at the end. It sort of seemed like maybe she wasnt sure how to end it, but that's okay, the rest was good enough. Also read Ghost Wall, and loved it!

Honestly the movie version of I’m Thinking of Ending Things is very good, even if its connection or similarity to the (also very good) book is tenuous. It’s something to keep in mind as you watch or read them.
