I'm sick of picking up what I think will be a good book and having to choose between jumpscare or probably spoilers. There are spoiler-free closed-door modifications, but you have to wade through a sea of possible spoilers to get there. Not all of us asking are looking for that stuff- unfortunately it's everywhere now and some of us are just trying to avoid it. I gave up and now I mostly read history.

What I can say regarding dark tropes in romance, people with a healthy understanding of fiction can see a boundary of fiction and reality. A handful of people also use it as a trauma outlet. Then there are the people who aren't able to see a boundary and dumb down what the essence of some dark tropes try to convey or be. Of course, I don't mean this comment to shame people for enjoying it, but it's more out of a place of concern that some people can't see a difference.
