It's really wonderful to see that the right books found you! Thank you for reminding me of Unraveling, I had that on my radar last year and then totally forgot about it. Unfortunately I find it particularly difficult to focus on reading when my mental health is not good. But today, thanks to your video, I will try to replace my mindless scrolling with picking up my current book!
@mikalareads6 ай бұрын
Oh my goodness I know JUST what you mean when you said you often find it difficult to focus on reading when your mental health is not good, I am the SAME way! I just will have a really hard time keeping my mind on whatever is going on in the book. The last month I have been trying to find more mentally easier reads, and that was when I picked up Unraveling and it was JUST what I needed! I was able to put on the audiobook and it just really helped calm me!!! I hope you are hanging in there and finding some peaceful moments in your day and I hope you are enjoying your current read!! You have also reminded me to stop my mindless scrolling too which I have been doing a LOT of and pick up my book! 😅📚💗🥰

Sounds like you read such excellent non-fiction especially this month. I found crocheting last year and I am so obsessed 😍 You always have the most enviable shirts. I just looked up Goosebumps shirts on Etsy and the majority of what came up was shirts with embroidered geese giving each other fist bumps. Not quite what I was aiming for, but I'm not disappointed 😂

HAHHAHA OMG I have to look up now goosebumps shirts on etsy, that is so funny!!!! Thank you so much Aisling! Okay now I am convinced I really need to start experimenting with crocheting! I just KNOW I would become obsessed as well!

This video just reminds me that I need to read more self-help books... The ABC Murders cover is so simple but looks so cute (even with the implied blood spatter)! I love the lettering. 6:24 - Same, friend. Same. I saw the cover of Things Have Gotten Worse..., and it looked SO familiar to another cover. Then I checked, and yeah, it's another Eric LaRocca book (You've Lost a Lot of Blood). You've said before that he pumps out great reads overall. This one seems like a super short one to jump into first!
@mikalareads6 ай бұрын
YES okay I have been having the BEST time lately with the self-help books and nonfic reads! I feel like reading from these new genres is making reading feel so new and exciting again! OHH YESS I was so worried going into Things Have Gotten Worse because I have heard mixed reviews on it and I was afraid it could be a love or hate read, thankfully I ended up loving it which makes me SO curious about Eric LaRocca's other books!!! Especially You've Lost a Lot of Blood I definitely am excited to read!!

Things have gotten worst since we last spoke is absolutely a metaphor, it’s definitely not a surface level read, there is a depth to it and I think about it to this day. ❤❤❤

Peril at End House was well on its way to being in my personal top ten of Agatha Christie novels... until she threw in that trope at the end. It didn't even have anything to do with the main story. It was included for one painfully obvious reason. I don't normally rage against a book, especially Agatha Christie, but I wanted to throw it against the wall. I've read some Christie work that wasn't so good. I even DNFd Passenger to Frankfurt, but I was never so mad as I was with Peril at End House. IMO, the inclusion of that trope ruined what could've been a masterpiece like Roger Ackroyd, Vicarage, And Then There Were None, and Nile. Sorry for my rant. Oh, if you want an underrated Christie novel, check out Dead Man's Folly. It never gets enough love.
@mikalareads6 ай бұрын
OHHH Thank you for recommending Dead Man's Folly!!!!!!! I am going to check this one out now! I have had such a journey with Agatha Christie over the last year! Some I have loved, others not so much, but each one has made me want to read more!
