I always assumed BUTTERCUP'S BABY was just intended as a prank by William Goldman; a sample chapter that he included as a tease but never planned to actually write. Knowing that he might have fully written it under different circumstances adds a new layer.

I would have loved to have seen a Dr. Sleep style sequel to Salem’s Lot. Like Mark’s life after Ben dies and we see why/ how Ben died.
@luanamendes47673 ай бұрын
Agree 100%! If I could pick any Stephen king for a sequel it would be Salems lot. I feel like there’s so much left to tell about the vampires and Mark’s story
@Aust519893 ай бұрын
@@luanamendes4767 I agree, plus if you count One For The Road as a short story “sequel”, the vampires are alive and well in The Lot, and part of me wonders if Barlow might be alive still too. I know we saw him die, but if a vampire could live that long, he’d know something about coming back from the dead.

Even though I read it for the first time in 1992, I still think about the crew from Swan Song and what they would have done with their new world. It was such a beautiful ending I wish we could’ve got another book about the coming of age story that follows that insane nightmare of a journey they all had.

I always daydreamed about a sequel to Pet Semetary, but done better than the movie with Edward Furlong (although Clancy Brown was friggen badass in PS2). But if written today, enough time would have passed for earlier events to be more urban legend... and you'd have folks who wouldn't respect history and are doomed to repeat it 😏

If I could pick any stand-alone book to get a sequel, it’s definitely The Stand. I love the book, but it isn’t my favorite King. Part of the reason why it’s not #1 King for me is I don’t feel like the story is finished. I’d like to see what happened to certain characters after the events. I’d also like to see what happened with the rest of the world. The Stand only focuses on the US, but the pandemic was worldwide. I think King could easily write another book continuing that story.
@fallenhero31303 ай бұрын
If you want to read more Neil Gaiman, I recommend AMERICAN GODS and it's basically a stand-alone. It technically has a spinoff novel, ANANSI BOYS, but neither book is dependent on the other. You could argue they're both stand-alones.

‘The primroses were over.’ A beautiful (yet harrowing) story from beginning to end. I’ve read it many times since I was a kid and it hits differently each time as I have aged. One of the most over-analyzed books, but as Richard Adams said “It’s just a story about rabbits.” Reread when you have time Mike, and share the book with your kids. It’s a story the author improvised to his kids on long car journeys across the downs and they insisted he put it to paper. Every reader should visit this book, and I think they will discover a sequel would diminish the original. I think I’m going to go pull it off my shelf again. 🙂 🐇

Interesting topic! I had started a comment about Wayward Pines, but I do have to agree about with Crouch - it would cheapen that ending that I loved! I think Stephen King has already continued with his best book prime for a sequel with The Shining, although I'm interested in what the Cujo sequel in his new book is like.

I’ve always had a similar mindset about IT. I love the book so much, it’s one of my favourite books and I’d love a sequel but also feel like it may take away from the ending like you said. Maybe if it wasn’t necessarily Pennywise but another of his kind but I’m not sure, it would be a tricky one. But at least … SPOILERS FOR ANOTHER STEPHEN KING BOOK! We got to see some of the characters again in 11/22/63

There really hasn't been any books I would like to see a sequel for, that aren't already part of a series. Some of Lovecraft's stories would have been cool to have a follow up, but I think the unknown with those endings is what makes it work. Catcher in the Rye, maybe. But there are other stories that deal with that family that you can kind of piece together what probably happened with Holden.

After watching Thinner for free, I decided to try the Mist, not expecting anything more than some entertainment and hopefully some old school fearlessness in storytelling, that in some now-forbidden tropes. (I was not dissapointed) Then I got to the end, and I was really mad. A couple of days later while thinking about it again I got over it. He is dark, but I couldn't handle the heavy Tomes. There is nothing worse to me than looking at great big book when you are stuck in the boring bits. When it came out, I read The Road. Based on the hype, I could tell it was a modern day classic and wanted to check it out. Maybe I was not in the right head frame then. I remembered I liked it, but not much else. Not sure about the other ones, Though the Princess Bride was a good movie. I need to read To Kill a Mockingbird. Lol. good old GenX. The boomers, parents having seen some rough times, especially for real Hard Times, also Vietnam, decided they didn't want to raise up a bunch of snowflakes and decided to scare us from time to time. Chriton is pretty good. I am not much a reader and prefer classics because of that, but Chriton is a good read, like Stephen King.

I don't know if you could actually do a sequel to The Road. I always took that ending paragraph to be a eulogy for a dead world. I know some people see hope in it, but I don't. Humanity is going extinct. It has, at best, a few years left. I also like the fact that the cause is left ambiguous.
