The Breakbeat Bible by Mike Adamo is a great one for funk drumming. I like Benny Greb's Language of Drumming too. Well organised and easy to follow.

Stanton Moore’s groove alchemy has been a huge one for me. Teaches the evolution of funk drumming and how to incorporate different styles into your own creative process.

I love my drum books. They’re my prized possessions. I’ve enjoyed using the Dafnis Prieto book lately called a world of Rhythmic possibilities. It’s got great anecdotes and is a great inspiration. Also Greg Sheehan’s new book called the rhythm diaries is a work of art and a beautiful alternative approach to thinking about rhythm and reading

I’ve done some work from it. It’s such a great book. I really love the reading exercise. They’re very bass drum friendly.

Hi Darryn.. Theses are all great books. The related follow-up books to Morello, Stone and Riley are fantastic as well. Morello's "Master Studies" II, Stone's "Accents and Rebounds" have helped me get my hands together. The Charley Wilcoxon books are fantastic too. John Riley's "Beyond Bop" and "The Master Drummer" are awesome too. Another great book for Cuban Rhythms is Horacio El Negro's "Conversations in Clave". I have been working out of books from Henrique De Almeida... he has several great books that are so thoughtfully laid out. They are quite thorough. Books like, Brazilian Rhythms for Drum set, The Ultimate Hand Technique Workshop, Double Bass Drum Integration, Polyrhythmic Possibilities Vol.1. Other books by: Gary Chaffee, the amazing book 4-way Coordination by Marvin Dahlgren and Elliot Fine. My books by John Riley and Horacio Hernandez have also been signed. They are definitely treasured books. Thanks for this video Darryn.

Great video Darryn. I have all those books too except for the Joel Rothman one and love them for the same reasons you do too. I too was very obsessed with the Weckl book when it came out. The New Breed Books were great to work from too and I noticed that your book - which I recommend to all my students is a great combination of best bits of the Garibaldi Future Sounds and New Breed combined but of course has all your own ideas in there too with the paradiddle permutations and combinations. Other snare books I've been using for a while is Lalo Davila's Rudiments book and Matt Savage's - Savage Rudimental workshop. Slightly more contemporary way of working your way through all the Rudiments...(I don't use the backing tracks that come with them any more). Thanks again D

Thank you for that Darryn. I love drum books, but I hate the publishing industry and here's why. When we were kids we bought all the known books. 10 yrs later, those books were re-released with cassette tapes. 10 yrs later, they were re-released with C.D's. 10 yrs later, they were re-released with video tape. My library cost me a fortune because I've replaced it 3 times :(

Great post. That must of been great experiences having lessons with Joe Morello and Virgil. I have some of those books you shared. Another good one I have is the Tommy Igoe Groove Essentials book/dvd.
