Most libraries don't have enough room on the shelves for all the books at once, so just taking them home and bringing them back is helping! Plus, it shows the library is being used, which helps them get funding.

@@DanikaLeighEllisi think people really fail to think about how full our shelves are. So checking out 25 books, never reading them, but bringing them back 3 weeks later is really helpful, especially when the cycle continues!

Brb going to avoid the library multiple times. No joke, though, I wish I could do library books, but my ADHD is terrible and I am absolutely unable of returning books on time. It's awful, and the stress it gives me about fines and about owing something to someone is a lot less manageable than shelling out to buy new books every now and again.

In the 90’s I was a teacher at a high school that didn’t really have a library. I went to a nearby city library and asked if there was a checkout limit. They said no.🤣 After they helped me fill my trunk and asked why I was checking out so many books, we started a great relationship that lasted the two years I spent in that district. Shortly after I left a limit was imposed. I like to think it had nothing to do with me.

The worst offenders of returning library books you haven’t read are librarians! We are constantly surrounded by amazing looking books that we can read for free! I’m a librarian and feel like all of my coworkers are constantly talking about how they’ll never be able to get to all of their checkouts. I probably read about 2/3rds of what I take out and the only reason that’s not worse is because I’m constantly holding myself back.

also a librarian, my dad made fun of me the last time he came over for having what seemed like half the library's collection chilling on my shelves at home 👀 of which I probably ended up reading, like, two...

This is exactly what the library is for. There is nothing I like more than browsing the shelves and borrowing what catches my eye. I encourage patrons to do the same, I often get asked if it's okay to place holds to see if it's what a patron is looking for and in the wise words of Yo Gabba Gabba: "Try it, you'll like it!" and if you don't, you can bring it back when you return your items - no harm, no foul. Depending on your library's collection and their stock rotation, it works in the next patron's favour because they wouldn't have had the chance to borrow it if you hadn't placed it on hold in the first place!

Love this idea! What i like to do is if i get the urge to go book shopping (which i really do not need to do), i go to the library instead and go wild. I will get literally every book that catches my eye, and take them all home. Then if i read them all (which never happens) great! If i don't get to any of them, no harm done. I haven't spent any money or been wasteful, and so far it has always worked to curb that desire to purchase books.

As a Floridian, I have a lot of experience with sunspots! The best way to get rid of them is lasers in microneedling, but there are a few topical products that can help. For me acids works best (SA specifically) because they have exfoliate deeper levels of the skin, but there are other ingredients called Tyrosinase Inhibitors that can help fade dark spots as well, but those are harder to find. I’ve found Korean skincare lines work the best, but La Roche Posay has a really popular one too!

I love the crafting! If you decide to do another cozy mystery series I would recommend Books Can Be Deceiving by Jenn McKinlay. It features a small New England town librarian, and she has this thing called “crafternoon” where the group gets together in a room in the library to do crafts together, eat treats, and talk about books. It sounds wonderful :-)

I really need to remember to use my library more, for my wallet's sake if nothing else. I always forget it's a good way to try stuff I'm unsure about or even excited about without trying to figure out how to make it work on my shelves or in my budget. I also am terrified of checking something out and forgetting all about it, then returning it unread or holding onto it for ages. I'm so glad you completed this challenge for yourself! Hopefully more people (like myself) remember to use their library after this!

10:15 As a person with synesthesia, I am now determined to read that book!!! I had a situation at school where we had to watch a documentary series over several weeks, and one of the names of the characters tasted like v0mit to me. Luckily I don't have many debilitating symptoms, that was one of the few times I've had very negative things associated with synesthesia. The comment about languages was very interesting to me, because I also experienced that but never thought about it at the time, and Sign language is the only other language I've ever had success at learning, which makes sense as there's no "different colours" associated with the same word meaning, it's just adding a movement as well. I think synesthesia oddly makes it easier for me to learn sign language because I have one extra association than most people.

I think the romance and thriller genres both can have the same issue where the tropes and twists that make them fun, can become stale after awhile, and make the genre feel receptive. I’ve found that while I like romance books often, it’s hard for one to surprise me enough or impact me enough to rate it a 5.

I *think* the scale out of 10 is for intrigue - Kayla's done videos where she reads the first chapter and rates it out of 10 for how much she wants to keep reading. A low score doesn't mean she won't read it, but that she was less hooked compared to another book. Overall, Kayla rates out of 5 stars when she's finished the book.
