I just got back from Ireland and there are some GREAT bookstores. I love checking out small local bookstores when I travel. (I can recommend a few I enjoyed if you’d like) One of my favorite parts was seeing all of the UK cover arts and how they differed from US ones. Anyways, great job on your first vlog! For Benji, I’d recommend The Housekeeper and The Professor by Yoko Ogawa. Don’t be misled by the title, it’s not a romance novel. It’s more a cozy story about an old retired math professor with memory loss and his friendship with his housekeeper and her young son.

Oooh as Benji loved Winter in Sokcho, definitely read the other books by Elisa Shua Dusapin, they’re all great. Also pretty much anything translated by Anton Hur is fab. Love in the Big City could be a corker. Ooh and if you go to Dublin on your Ireland trip you’ll be spoilt for bookshops.

It's so funny, because I was thinking of recommending the "Earthsea" books and seconds later, Benji grabs the copy off the shelf. Great series, especially if you enjoyed Harry Potter (Ursula K. Le Guin originated the idea of a school for wizards and she did some pretty radical things with her books at the time.)

Hi Benji and Chris, I stumbled upon Benji's Vietnam vlogs yesterday and then I discovered Chris's channel today. I was excited to watch a bookstore vlog with the two of you. I love your vibe.💙 Benji, here are some warm Japanese novels I've read and love: 1. The Restaurant of Love Regained - Ito Ogawa 2. Before the Coffee Gets Cold - Toshikazu Kawaguchi (It's a 5-part series but the stories aren't interconnected. The main characters continue in every book. I've read 2 out of the 5 books and I think this is one of those series that gets better with every book) 3. The Kamogawa Food Detectives - Hisashi Kashiwai (another ongoing series but every book is a standalone in terms of closing loose ends.)

For some short good quality fantasy recs for Benji, I have loved: The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley, also The Bedlam Stacks by her as well is quite fantastic. The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley (though it's possibly more science fiction, than fantasy) The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J Klune -- and again, not strictly fantasy, but Sourdough by Robin Sloan is a lovely short book, kind of magical realism-ishy? :)
