That reading room! I love it! I have all my unread books at the bottom of my shelves - then when I read them I can move them up (as though they have to earn their place to get the spots at my eye line/in frame). Just an idea for you and where you decide to put them.

I did a built in set of shelves in my house and they weren’t enough for me either. I love the other shelves I added later. Now the whole house is a library. Maybe because I do things like buy 3 versions of Empire of a Vampire. I have the us, the Goldsboro, and the Illumicrate coming. So glad it’s not just me.

Love that book room Brittany! I used to love filling my shelves with those old style Daw Paperbacks with the snazzy covers and rich yellow pulp pages. Quite Apt given your professed affinity for Jay Kristoff's undead stories, that you're thinking about setting up a shelf of the 'unread.' A third shelf for the perennially re-read books would complete a perfect library triptych. I am listening to the empire of the vampire by jay Kristoff and I am at 25% though it and one of my favourite quotes from near the beginning is:- War doesn't teach you to be a killer it's just a key that opens our door, there is a beast in all men's blood Gabriel.... You can starve him ,cage him, curse him but in the end pay the best his due or he takes his due from you..... This hit me when I heard this bit & I found it so poetic that I fell in love with it & yes the beginning bit for it starts is soooo good. With this book I am getting interview with a vampire meets Witcher a little because as the book goes on I can see where he has gotten inspiration from. By the way I love your book library you and ur dad did a great job on the room

Loving the library! It's really cool and some nice views outside, too. I'm sure you'll settle on an organization that's satisfactory to you. Mine are all pretty scattered around my room, some things are together, Harry Potter, James Bond, Tolkien, etc. Mainly it's hardcovers together, and paperbacks together, and kinda going big to small. Like the glimpses of the house, too. Did you have a housewarming party yet? The cats seem to be liking it too. As for what I'm reading, I'm about halfway through book 3 of Shattered Sea, and I'm liking it a lot. It's interesting: I've read some of Sanderson's adult stuff, and enjoyed them well enough, but when I got to Skyward and Starsight, I liked them better. Same with Abercrombie. I liked the First Law trilogy fine, but Shattered Sea is really good. Don't get me wrong, I plan to continue with more books by both men, in time. I think maybe their YA books are a little less dense I suppose. ANYWAY. After Shattered Sea, I think it's back to thriller mode for a bit.

As much as I can't wait to have an actual library this is why I'm always scared of moving. All the books I have to pack and then unpack 😩. I definitely remember House of Night it's become a running joke between me and my brother because we were reading the series together, but around book 7 or 8 I told him I can't read anymore. Now he loves offering to let me borrow his copies whenever I can't decided what to read. *I'm loving EOTV so far only started it because of a buddy read, but I'm glad I did. I suggest reading alongside with the audiobook it helps with the pacing.

If you like the weird side of the Expanse I'd recommend the short story Strange Dogs. It is a really creepy side story set on Laconia and involves the proto molecule. It is probably my least favorite Expanse short story, but it sounds perfectly up your alley.

I like the paperback additions of the UK Abercrombie. They are just plain in Browns and greys. They look almost like they're mimicking old leather but I could be a little crazy. I am also finding Empire a slow read. But I think that's because I'm trying to savour it. I'm listening to it and reading along and I'm trying to only do about hundred or a hundred and fifty pages max a day. That way I get all the information and can become as engrossed in the world as possible. I also find that the writing is so rich that it reads a little slower. But I'm totally fine with that. That just means I'll have Jay all week instead of a Jez. If you know you know . I also agree with you about the language. I am an educated girl but I speak like I live on the docks. I think that comes with growing up surrounded by men so I love the locker room humour and don't find it offensive at all. Seen a few people who have started Empire are not thrilled about the language or have found it offensive or sexist to read which I don't get. Not sure what that says about me, or them. Not sure I care, quite frankly cuz I totally love it and him. I'm not a Metalhead I'm a classic rocker chick and I have to say his stuff screams Guns and Roses and Def Leppard to me. Right down to the black leather pants and long hair. Which is my jam so sorry not sorry. Also have you thought about a tbr cart? One cart for to haul or talk about and the other for Tbr🕷️

As far as getting distracted doing something and letting yourself get really uncomfortable - YES! I end up sitting on one of our kitchen island stools [wooden, flat 'seat', no back - awful] and I'm hunched over, checking a ton of stuff on my laptop, and then I realise that my back is really stiff when I get up to deal with stuff that's cooking. I've also become distracted while in a positions that give me pins and needles, which is annoying af! Do I learn? Not really, no. 🦑

Yeah, so I am totally not jealous of your library or anything... Haha no seriously, it looks absolutely amazing!! 😍 I am also reading EotV right now (about 45% into it) and I am having the best time ever. At first I was scared I wouldn't like the jumping around in the timeline, but luckily I don't mind and I am completely invested. This book is just classic Jay Kristoff greatness; beautiful prose, great themes, lines/passages that you can't help but reread and just overall badassary. Like you, I also don't have much time to read and I definitely agree that this book reads slow. However, I am savouring every single moment of it and I am just overjoyed to finally have this gorgeous book in my hands (the UK cover is indeed superior, I love my Waterstones special edition). What a great week 🐙☺ Oh btw, I can't wait for that 'spooky' readathon, that sounds like so much fun!! 👻 Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Oh girl, I do not get keeping books you didn't like. I actually keep a box in bookshelf where I put books that I hated, didn't like, or just found okay so they never make it to my read shelf. That being said, I don't hold onto anything regardless. Beloved item from my childhood I wondered across and realized I hadn't seen in years? You guessed it, I haven't seemed to have missed it in years so right into my donate box it goes. No actual judgment though, I tend to lack attachment to almost everything in life to the point it is probably really unhealthy and probably related to my trauma. House looks amazing by the way, really great job. Super happy for you. I know it is frustrating waiting on supplies, just know your not alone. Supply chains and production hasn't recovered yet but it is well worth waiting for then thing you really want than to settle for getting something fast. Hold strong, I know how it feels to fight the frustration and disappointment though.

Weirdly enough, the only Step Up movie I've seen is the second one. Adding art into fantasy books (or any books really) is fantastically expensive, especially if the art is in full color. It's sad, but it comes down to money. I would love to have more art in books, but I think the price tag of those books would be intense. Also, I do the laying on the bed thing, and forget I'm laying there. :D Also, i absolutely carry around my books and hug them. I don't have emojis on this computer! So, octopus! >`D

I'm a big fan of art and there are many great fantasy themes artists (last night i was looking at Bruce Pennington's art and far future earth stories). I've been trying to match paintings and excerpts from books that i like (using the simple microsoft paint program - mspaint), print them and bind them into a physical book. But this costs also a lot of money, the printing at least because i can bind a few hundred pages into a book. So far i keep them in the computer in .jpg images form.

You are so right about UK editions, they are so stiff and you always break the spine no matter how careful you are while reading them. It is sad because in India we usually get the UK editions and it is so hard to find those floppy US editions here though I always like the UK covers more than US covers.

Haha, in the beginning of the video I thought 'Nooo Brittany, you're not leaving enough space between the books, you're going to end up with empty shelves!' 5 minutes into the video 'Okay no Brittany just owns a ridiculous amount of books' 😅😅😅 I have a Kingfisher book on my TBR so I'm sad to hear that you didn't like the one you picked up by this author. But it's always a good habbit to DNF/put down books you're not enjoying. I need to work on that myself! I haven't read anything by mr. Kristoff yet, but I'm glad you got your special edition in the mail. That cover is beautiful indeed! By the way I'm living for the shade towards the ex. 😁 Oooh readathon! I'm on board 👻👻👻 I'm currently reading Kings of Paradise and enjoying it quite a bit. I finished Piranesi last week and love that book so much! 🐙🦑

Maybe I missed the explanation, but how to do account for future additions to series when you’re planning bookshelf organization? Like I saw your Expanse series in the same area as Malazan, Wheel of Time and other major series, but I didn’t see any room for the eight and ninth books.
