Ugh I feel the same. I loved fourth wing and I loved it bc it was just an easy read. I have read complex worlds and I didn’t go into this journey thinking that. Rebecca writes characters very well however she tired WAY too hard to make this book complex with her world building in this third book. It was just messy. Like no that’s not why we started fourth wing, we read it for just a fun easy romantasy read with dragons. I went in with low expectations but I wasn’t into the book till chapter 40 and even then I had to push myself to finish it.

Iron Flame was a STRUGGLE for me after loving FW. And after seeing some thoughts on this, I’m deciding to DNF the series.
@Shellesspace2 күн бұрын
I’m so glad I dnf’d at 200 pages. I’m honestly questioning if this book was edited at all. It doesn’t make sense. I didn’t know it was supposed to be a trilogy… hopefully she uses the next few years to fine tune the 4th book. And maybe hire a new editor 🫠

I’ve honestly only liked the first one. And I’m happy to see other people are also having issues with the sequel books. This series doesn’t have any forethought and it shows. It constantly undulates between wanting to be a high fantasy, high stakes, massive world building but the care and intention with the scene and characters and dialogue doesn’t add up. Definitely not worth 5 books.

Honestly my favourite vlog on this book out there yet, I have been feeling so confused and alienated by all the unrestrained gushing I have seen from others lol. I am glad it is working better for so many of the fans of the series, but you already know that I felt the exact same as you ouch... 🤣🥲 Fingers crossed Yarros listens and learns, so she can knock it out of the park in books 4 and 5. I am kinda glad the wait is so long, because I don't want to consume a single bit of content about this series anymore for a while hahaha

I definitely feel the same way! I was so excited to pick this book up but I was underwhelmed and disappointed. I have a spoiler vlog reading this book! 😅 if you wanna compare thoughts. You’re not alone 😂

I'm glad you waited and didn't rush to read and push a vlog out like so many people did. It's funny that I agree with your criticisms but because I had so much fun reading it, it was a 5 star for me. I didn't think it was a perfectly crafted book but it gave me exactly what I hoped for in terms of enjoyment (I laughed out loud multiple times) and that's my criterion for a book like this. I found Iron Flame to be a slog of information with few moments of enjoyment so I liked this one better!

Thank God I stayed off of social media until I read Onyx Storm because I had no idea about the craziness. I just happily read my pre-ordered copy in the dark about all that. I felt genuinely confused until the "quest squad"part of the plot started. I thought it was because I hadn't read the first two books since 2023 - but you felt the same way and you just read them! I felt like I pushed through the first bit, but I loved the group exploring the Isles. I wish there was a map of that part of the world. It felt like a side quest that still contributed to the lore and world building. I also really liked the end when they started switching viewpoints. I hope that future books have multiple POVs. Unfortunately, I don't feel invested in Xaden's and Violet's relationship. I wish someone could convince me why they should be together. The relationship grew throughout Fourth Wing, but I felt like it has stalled since. I feel like the book tells me that they love each other on a deep meaningful level, but all I am reading is "You're so hot". The relationships that were teased near the end of the book were more intriguing for me. Also, the way Rebecca Yarro's writes spice is not it for me. I was comparing it to Elsie Silver's spice writing (I am currently reading The Chestnut Springs series for the first time and I am on book 3) - and her spice is actually hot. Yarro's spice writing just gave me the ick. So the book was a mixed bag because I felt exactly like you in the beginning but I really enjoyed myself and felt the pull to devour the book in the second half. I respect your opinion and agree with you about the bones being great and the writing shows she's out of her depth a bit. I hope with the break before she writes book 4 helps the storyline/writing (and makes people calm down!)

It definitely felt like most of the obstacles were just thrown in only to draw the book out.

I think this book was too overhyped for me. I got to 33% and officially put it away for now. Such a bummer! Editing to add: I’m hoping this just suffers from 3rd book syndrome for me but my expectations are on the ground lol
@JAKandtheBookStack3 күн бұрын
At the end of this book the plot hasn’t progressed more than where we were in the beginning. Some of the micro plots were entertaining, but overall I think the writing style focused on shock value rather than a cohesive story.

I have found my people!! I absolutely hated the first part of this book. To get to page 300 ish and finally started to be interested. I think because I am more an experienced epic fantasy reader made this more of a struggle because I could compare it to amazing books. Thank you for this video!

I love your idea about having a kindle book on your phone for the little breaks between things. Usually this is when I'd scroll social media, but am trying to stay away for a bit of a cleanse and it's been tough filling those little 5 minute breaks. I'm usually a physical book kind of girl, but I'm definitely going to get a kindle book going on my phone now. Love your vlogs!
