@elizabethgardner68324 жыл бұрын
@@caricanread Are you not being ironic Cari? It's hard to tell if you are joking. For a long time, I thought that the nearly all the people on booktube were white women who loved YA fantasy and thrillers/true crime but fortunately that's not true. I do think that your travel channel is unique and I'm sure that you'll find your audience on your booktube channel as you already have 5K subscribers after doing only one video. I'm not much interested in either one of those genres you mentioned (at least not the books that I've seen most commonly featured repeatedly on booktube).In any case, if being unique is a goal (and it doesn't have to be as reading is personal) and you expand the types of books that you read, then that could be interesting.
@caricanread4 жыл бұрын
@Elizabeth Gardner What? Hahahah I was very very clearly being sarcastic in my statement - booktube is nearly 100% white women talking about ya fantasy and true crime. That's why I was *joking* about it being unique.
@caricanread4 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethgardner6832 A tip for next time I use sarcasm (because I always do) - if I'm rolling my eyes and/or making a statement like "I'm the *most* unique" or "I'm an *absolute expert* on this topic" I am definitely joking.
@oliverthiessen52764 жыл бұрын
As soon as she said "I am a white woman who loves YA fantasy and true crime, so I'm kind of unique as it gets", I was sold on this channel. I love a good ironic sense of humour. Cari if you read this, I'm excited to see more of your channel, good luck!

So I'm exited to follow you here as well and perhaps get new book ideas and keep being inspired to read. :D Thank you~

Can relate to the low threshhold for communication and not answering texts for three days😔 The people surrounding me don't seem to fully understand what it's like. Just like you I used to be an avid reader since I can remember, but then depression took over my life and suddenly getting through 2-3 books a year was a struggle. One day you talked about Pachinko and I knew I had to read it. This changed everything for me because it moved me so much I remembered the joy books can bring, and how good of an escape they are. I found that family sagas and historical fiction, especially combined, are my two most loved genres and I was able to discover so many more amazing books just because of that one recommendation of yours, so thank you for that and good luck with your new channel! Hope books never fail to inspire you not only when it comes to making videos but also your art and dreams. Super excited to see you grow.

YAY! This was the perfect way to start my morning. I can relate to not wanting to feel pressure regarding reading and the joy it brings me, however connecting with other readers is so inspiring so I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. Don't stress about having to be something you are not! I have been managing a book store for 14 years, and my love has not diminished, if anything connecting with other readers has truly opened my eyes to so many genres I would have never originally picked up. Already looking forward to next Friday!

I love your taste in books. It's the main reason I discovered your other channel. Murakami et al. I've actually taken many of your reading suggestions and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I have been surviving the pandemic by reading/ listening to audiobooks. And it's daunting to try and figure out new books to read. So, finding someone who has great taste in books is a godsend. I really appreciate this.
@paullee46654 жыл бұрын
I would love a chance to discuss books read with you and your followers. In the case of Murakami, no one I know in my own circle of friends that I regularly talk to has read Murakami. I have lots of thoughts and questions I want to bounce off someone who has read him, but I don't have that opportunity. I don't know how that can be done. Maybe pick a book and ask for discussion questions? I don't know. So many questions....

Rivers of London is one of my favorites! ahhhh, cari, I had seen this video recommended to me at one point and then actively went looking for it on your channel and couldn't find it (thought I had imagined it or something?!) and then watched a vlog od yours instead and you mentioned starting a booktube channel ... and oh my, I am in love. You are such a nice person to listen to and your editing is so calming and beautiful and then on top of that you talk about your passion for books which is my number one favorite thing in the world

welcome to booktube!!! six of crows really is that amazing. i read little fires everywhere and thought it was overhyped, but i think i should give everything i never told you a chance.

Six of Crows brought my love of fantasy back to life! And yes, I was pleasantly surprised with Everything I Never Told You!

Watching you talk about books brings me so much joy!!! I would recommend to you "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt (my favourite book), it's a mystery thriller mixed with dark academia and it's just amazing. Also, if you liked "There There" you should read "A Little Life", just as you said, this book is one of my favourites this year but I didn't enjoy reading it because it's real, raw, sad and overall beautifully heartbreaking. x

omg i actually just started secret history but its sooo hard for me to get into hahah i think it reminds me too much of the snooty kids at my university that i hated LOL and i tried really a little life but i dont think i was in the right mind space so I will try it again soon!! i've heard nothing but amazing things!!
