Way cool! Thank you for this. Just last night I built a "punch out" object using the old-fashioned method, but a compound object would probably have been better. Now I know (and, so I was told by cartoons in the mid 1980s, knowing is half the battle).

Another great example. Couple of things I struggled. It is unclear what the different is between shapes and curves. I think there is no difference for boolean operations. However lines disappear, that was for me very unexpected. Then I tried to copy two nodes. They also disappear. Affinity said that was a bug (14 year old). I am trying to learn how it works, your videos are very helpful.

Hi @CarolusChess, shapes and curves are very similar. Shapes have unique parameters that you can change. For example, the Star shape lets you change how many points it has or the radius. Curves are just nodes and the connections between them. You can make a curve that LOOKS like a star, but it won't have any controls for star properties. You can see the difference by creating a Star shape and seeing what it can do on the top toolbar. Then, convert that Star shape to a curve and notice how all those special features are gone. I'm not sure which bug you are referring to. Do you have a link to where Affinity said this? It would help me understand. Hope this helps!

@@TechnicallyTrent Hi Trent, I received a comment on the affinity forum, which works is in the boolean-add-does-not-work-when-adding-a-line-with-a-shape-or-curve/. My name on the affinity forum is Leo1. Making simple flowcharts in affinity is a nightmare. Posting on the forum is also not that easy. I think making a youtube video for this topic is a great idea. I sent you an email, greetings Leo

Okay, I never knew about double clicking opacity to add noise! When did Affinity add that feature (don't tell me that it's always been there!). Talk about a non-discoverable interface element.

Yeah, it was a long time before I noticed the Noise option, too :)
