As a disabled person with a disabled kid (who also has some pretty intense mental health challenges which, without going into detail, are literally life threatening in a way that their physical disability is not), a lot of people in similar situations develop a very dark and dry sense of humour about it. I strongly suspect Scar is one of those, although he mostly keeps it pretty light on camera. I took Grian's reaction as surprise that Scar went there on camera, more than that he went there at all.

The devs have said that tnt douping was a bug at first but they have turned around on it because it is useful. They were looking at in game ways to doup tnt but nothing felt vanilla. So it’s a feature not a bug now according to the devs
@SCRPXXL

The devs still need to add movable storages (its a positive bug for those who do redstone but fixing it would require time and resources). In bedrock this is not the case due to movable storages and tnt duping is patched.

In my opinion while we dont have an alternative for movable TNT dropping, TNT dupping is fine, cause really thats why its used so much. Im pretty sure if we could move dispensers/chests people would make world eaters and stuff without dupping TNT. Then again, maybe the amount of TNT required would be way too much to even farm
@mayaelise2311

There's no realistic way to get enough sand for a dispenser-based world eater, unless you want to gravity-block-dupe sand (which people seem to view as more cheat-y than tnt duping). At a minimum you'd need both movable dispensers and farm-able sand to replace TNT duping entirely.

Its not a "feature", its bug they aren't patching until they can replace its role in flying machines. For bedrock version they have moveable tile entities, so you can just put a dispenser on a flying machine. As a result TNT duping has been patched since it is a cheating bug that doesn't enable anything you can't do with legitimate features.

@@derrickstorm6976 the real question is this: is minecraft a more interesting and fun game with TNT duping than it would be without TNT duping (and no replacement). I think a good mechanic to add would be to run the clay blocks over or next to magma blocks or even lava to turn it into terracotta and bypass the furnace mechanic completely. Similar to placing a wet sponge in the nether. Or harden it to where it wouldn't drop clay balls, basically turning it into hardened clay which could then be smelted into terracotta.

TNT duping is good for the planet. You don't have to destroy a desert to create a farm. It's Eco Friendly. It's also good for your save file, since you don't have to generate a giant file in order to find said deserts. You can also get sand from other biomes besides deserts, but it's the deformation of landscape that really bothers me.

I feel like TNT duping shouldn't be a thing either, but as long as getting enough sand for crafting TNT is such a pain (and ecological disaster - mining deserts look terrible, most other mass-mined blocks are mined below surface), TNT duping seems like sort of a necessary evil. Someone else in the comments here suggested adding TNT to piglin bartering, and that sounds like a great option (only bad thing is there is no sand in the nether so would be kind of out of place).

Hi Impulse! You asked about feedback related to the status of TNT duping and I wanted to take a deep dive and give a perspective on it as a random viewer and long time player just passing by. I started playing Minecraft as an adult around 2017 and have played on many worlds on many servers. It's astonishing how diverse the game is as an open world-sandbox game. From mods and servers such as: SkyFactory 4, Vault Hunters, dropper maps, Hypixel, and Rustic Waters to derping around on vanilla realms with friends and even solo worlds, I've done a little of everything. The game and communities have changed a lot over the years. You have everything from Sci-Craft and 2b2t to Hermitcraft and Empires SMP. Minecraft is a sandbox game for you to explore your creativity. If you constantly held yourself back with what was intentional versus what's enjoyable, that seems like unneeded anxiety. Some people like to follow the rules to the letter and that's okay. Entire subreddits and discord servers exist that connect those people together because that's how they enjoy the game. Some people, such as speed runners like Illumina, PeteZahHutt, and TapL, like to see how far they can go with their own reflexes. Others like ilmango, doc, tango, etho, and so on like to push what they can do technically, try new things and make cool contraptions that pushes past the conventional bounds of the game. Anarchy servers exist for the lawless that enjoy breaking all the rules because the rules existed to begin with. I think that's okay too as long as everyone is on board with it and mutually having fun. If you don't like the concept of TNT duping, that's okay! There is no need to apologize for that. It's how you most feel comfortable playing the game. In a continuously updating game like Minecraft, there will always be bugs and unintended exploits or bugs turned features. Some like the creeper design or amplified terrain were even officially added to the game. Using unintended features in general gameplay can be measured with the pros and cons. I think the general community consensus is: *TNT duping is a bug turned feature*. The game has limitations. You can't just automatically have infinite quantities of everything on hand in survival mode. There are a lot of good reasons why tnt duping is perfectly okay: time, resource availability, skill, and the lack of mods or plug-ins. In my opinion, you shouldn't have to feel guilty about using the community's ingenuity to make certain aspects of the game more enjoyable when it comes to almost any redstone technology. Sure, there are some exploits that are way too over the top and are outright ridiculous like duping enchanted golden apples or max gear pieces. Although, if something is added to a game unintentionally, doesn't mean that it's bad or unhealthy for the game in general and should not be used. Time In listing the pros of tnt duping, time is the most obvious benefit. Hermitcraft season 9 is limited by one massive looming adversary. . . time. An old adage goes: "all good things must come to an end." When the season is finished, would you have rather spent dozens, maybe hundreds, of hours mining blocks to be simply sold in a shop to other players or working on your mega base and hanging out with your friends on the server? Resource Availability: The argument about tnt duping making more resources than natural could be used about almost all farms since, by default, you are manipulating the game to produce more of a resource than naturally gathering it by hand. Everything from a gold farm or a drowned farm to a simple sugar cane farm has an automation to it to save time. Let's say you argue that you should then use tnt in dispensers for the same project. Sand is a nonrenewable resource. If you use TNT duping, you don't have to worry about depleting as many deserts if you wanted to have a device breaking things with a tnt dispenser. The creation of concrete in particular is a good reason to not destroy all nearby deserts for dispensed tnt. Skill: In the case of TNT duping as a practice, there is an inherent risk to the player the more elaborate the machines are. You still have to know how the mechanic works AND construct the devices for the TNT duping to even work for the certain item you want while also replenishing the item you want to break in cases like the clay and mud. Those are outputs of the farm. When constructing farms like that for the first time, there is always the risk of blowing yourself up and losing your progress if you don't know what you're doing. It's like when you and tango set up the wither skeleton farm way back in episode 9. It took time and preparation, but it created a controlled and steady stream of products by manipulating items, mob ai, and terrain already existing. Mods and Plug-ins Hermitcraft already uses mods and plugins that manipulate the game in unintentional ways. While the server is mostly vanilla, many of the amazing builds on the server would be hampered by the lack of using player heads, mob heads, small blocks, invisible item frames, and texture packs. Even when you hover over a shulker box and it displays the contents for you. I would LOVE that to be a vanilla feature in minecraft. As the server already doesn't adhere to strictly vanilla rules, why is tnt duping so different as a quality of life change? At the end of the day, it's a big time saver that allows you to be able to actually accomplish more fun and bigger projects. It takes resources and skill to set it up to work properly and you are not changing anything about the game's code itself. So, go for it and have fun! (Just finished typing this out and sorry for the dissertation xD)

In Doc’s latest video he mentioned talking to a Minecraft developer and saying they wanted to patch out update suppression quickly before it becomes a feature like TNT duping that is so beloved by the community that there would be backlash if they patched it. So I don’t think TNT duping will ever be patched. It is likely forever a feature. You might as well use it. That can at least make a farm fully automatic. Not having to constantly top up TNT.

re: tnt duping I think the thing that makes the game fun in technical projects like this, is complexity and automation. I think this is a really good example, because you're trying to break clay. There's currently no way to farm sand. You either go into a desert and dig for several hours to make tnt, or you dupe sand. So now instead of digging clay, you're digging sand. Granted, digging the sand on it's own is more efficient, and going purely based on blocks being dug, more efficient by a rather substantial amount, but that's not counting the time running around collecting sand, vs digging a big block of clay in one spot, travel to the desert, messing with shulker boxes, crafting, etc. I won't deny that, even all those things considered, it's probably still faster to make a few stacks of tnt than it is to dig the clay manually. But we come back to complexity and automation. Digging sand instead of digging clay isn't really automation, it's just increased efficiency of the non-automated task you're doing. A tnt duper is both completely automated, and more complex to build. Basically, I won't feel guilty about tnt duping until there's a way to reliably farm sand, and I still won't feel guilty about using duping in flying machines until we can move dispensers
