Modeling The Big Warehouse (Part 1) | River Road - Vlog # 79

This is part one of how to model a big Warehouse Building Flat for any scale Model Railroad or Diorama. I adopted this building method, from my career in film, in order to withstand temperature fluctuations, humidity, warpage and general post-production abuse.

The one thing that stands out to me perhaps more here than anywhere else (besides great craftsmanship), is the strength of the base frames of these buildings. It's as if you planned to someday move them, unbraced, across Canada, on dirt trails, hanging from the roof of a Conestoga wagon! 💪

Lol . . . they will stand alone as well if something happens to the layout. They also become impervious to humidity, fade and warpage as well ;-)

I'd never used one of those chisel blades until I saw you use one. Now it's my go to tool. Never too old to learn.

@@cleanpowerelectric I already modeled that subject in O (1/48) Scale with Interurban Traction Lines at the Granville Island Model Train museum in the nineties which is now closed. I also grew up in Kitsilano near 7th and McDonald. ;-)

Absolutely fantastic! You share so many practical insights. Thank you. I have a cold storage distribution flat to build on my layout. Like your building I’ll have two or three loading doors and had little or no idea how to place the panels. I know now and only need to figure out how to place the insulated bump outs around the doors. This is a great series. Sincerely, Kennedy

Remember most warehouses like this used steel ramps to extend over the gap to the cars from the landing as well.

Medium CA. Make sure you varathane the wood first. It magnifies the adhesion rate.
